Nice comment. I use to think that this was the case, but I do not
think that we can blame any one party. We cannot even lay blame
on the last few presidents. However, I do think that the last few
presidents (President Obama, President Bush, President Clinton,
President Bush, and President Reagan) did accelerate our current
problems.
The country's problems have been building since the contry was born.
All of our elected officials past and present are to blame for our
country's current problems. What we need now is for the internal
bickering to stop and for some plans to be proposed, studied, and
acted on before it is too late. (Though, I do concede that it could
already be too late, but we still need to try--correct?) Our
officials need to STOP this party line business and just work for a
common goal. The goal: SOLVING THIS MESS WE ARE IN!!!
When I was younger, I was a moderate-to-conservative religious
right type. Then, as I started listening to a friend from high
school, he made me think about my positions more. I use to be a
hard party-liner. Now, I hope that when I do go to the polls (well
fill out and send in my absentee vote) I am voting on things or
candidates that have a similar view of the world. Hence, I am
a registered Independent.
Unfortunately, I admit that my eyes are clouded by my early opinions.
I now think that many of my early opinions were not thought out very
well. Where I thought I was voting for the "lesser of two evils" in
the case where I was younger I usually sided with the Republican
candidate and blindly followed their ideals now it seens I am swinging
in the Moderate-Democrat to Liberal-Democrat area. Unfortunately, from
my perspective, the "lesser of two evils" has usually been the
Democrat candidate. In a few years, that could change.
However, I think that it has always boiled down to who we think, from
our personal perspective, is the "lesser of two evils". Let's face it
both of our major parties have abandonded the common citizen. Again,
from my perspective, the Democrats have not abandonded the common
citizen as much as the Republicans have but only by a very small
margin.
What really ticked me off about the Republican Party is that the party
has been perceived to be aligned with the "religious right". Now, from
what I remember the religious types are supposed to be understanding
and want to help their fellow man, but this is not what I see. I see
rich people scratching other rich people's backs. I see this from both
sides.
BUT, let's face it, our current financial crisis was created by WALL
STREET. Speculation is what brought down our system. Insuring
speculation (example, A.I.G.) is what brought down everything. Not
knowing what was being insured was the problem. (Please point me to
some solid documentation that this was not the case. Remember this is
my perspective.)
The "War on Terror", while starting before the financial crisis, I
cannot help to think that the terrorists that hate our capitalizm
are turning out to be correct. A lot of our problems are economic.
Have the terrorists won? From my perspective all of the in-fighting
is leading me to believe that they have won. I wish that all of our
politicians would realize this and start working together to find a
solution to our financial crisis.
I wish that regulators would do their jobs. I wish that they could
find the time and energy to investigate claims. I wish another Madoff
would not occur again. To the investors of Madoff, how could you
believe his crap. In my opinion, the investors of Madoff should not
be bailed out, and I hope they are not going to be. They chose to
invest with him. If they do get a bail out, then the small investor
(such as myself--401k, IRA, and mutual fund) should also have thier investiments insured. I cannot believe it--Madoff's scam was so
obvious. How could the regulators NOT do anything?
* Note: I have no full proof of what I have stated above. I guess the
above are just ramblings. Ramblings from a most-of-the-time observer.
And, lets face it, it's all about PERCEPTION. I am just rambling about
what I have perceived, but I hope it'll get you (the reader) thinking
and realize that our current problems are a sum of all that has
happened in the past.
** NOTE: This second note is hopefully coherent. While our current
problems cannot be fully attributed to our current financial problems;
it should be noted that it is unwise to think that he would have been
able to fix all of the problems in his first term. (I do not know if
he will get a second term, but whoever our next president is we need
to give him options. Solid options. Unbiased Options. Options that
give this country as a whole a fighthing chance.)
*** I also admit that my perspective could be wrong. Please don't flame me about being wrong, but please gently guide me to re-evaluate any
incorrect conclusions.
