Re: Dial-up modem

The new ($12 external USB) modem came today and it appears to be working *better* than the internal (GVC PCI): I can at least make a connection from a remote system, but the best rate I've been able to achieve was 28800/21600, rather than the 33600/33600 that I would expect. Please let me know your experiences with the new modem and I'll be keeping an eye on the logs. It might be time to bring an old-fashioned USR external modem out of retirement.

The driver for this USB modem is causing my system to lockup, so I'm not going to be using it. I'll be switching to an old-fashioned RS-232 external modem this week.
