Sadly Pascal seems to be greatly undervalued these days.
gpc appears to have been left to rot.
It is, however, available on Debian Linux...

You mean, associated with the compiler install? As a for instance, the following "units" packages are available for Free Pascal on Debian: fp-units-fv, fp-units-multimedia, fp-units-gnome1, fp-units-fcl, fp-units-base,
fp-units-gfx, fp-units-gtk, fp-units-gtk2, fp-units-i386, & fp-units-misc.
I sometimes think about trying my hand at it again but it's been a _long_ time since I did anything with Pascal...
