From Android8675@SHODAN to All on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 08:47:54
Any ideas for making this so it connects to nethack servers? I setup one recently at home. I can connect to it at telnet://shodan.synchro.net:2323, but if I try it using *telgate it fails to connect, just sits there, no output.

the frontend i'm using it dgamelaunch, it's got terrible documentation, but maybe the source is better commented...

    https://github.com/paxed/dgamelaunch

I'd like to be able to pass the login:pass as well, if you telnet from u*ix as follows:

    telnet shodan.synchro.net:2323 -l username:passsword

    you'll see what I mean.

I have Dungeon Crawl set up like a bbs door. I haven't tried setting up Nethack though but I would assume you could do the same thing.

I've set up some MUDs before and used mudgate, but thats been a while
and i dont have any up right now.

    Anyways, for telgate, lets say:

dgamelaunch is not listening to port 2323?

Port 2323 is blocked by firewall/not configured in router?

I haven't tried Crawl (I assume you mean Stone Soup?), but I have tried Nethack, about 30 different builds of Rogue/Nethack variants for Windows. Either running through Synchronet's DOSXTRN or built in FOSSIL, NETFOSS, etc.

I'll give Crawl a try next opportunity, see if it does something different.

dgamelaunch is not listening to port 2323?
I can connect with any telnet client to telnet://shodan.synchro.net:2323, I'm running a similar setup as nethack.alt.org which is basically dgamelaunch which lets you run nethack or similar roguelikes over telnet. For some reason dispite being a pretty simple console game, you can't just run nethack/win through a FOSSIL frontend like NETFOSS. I'm sure if I had time to delve into the nethack code I could figure out why...

I figure if someone took the time to write a nice frontend for roguelikes, why not use it? That was I can use it as a frontend to access several different crawlers.

Problem is that for some reason *telgate.js won't connect. It won't connect to my server or remote servers like the one setup at nethack.alt.org.

I can connect to other telnetable BBSs, MUDs, or other various servers, but not to dgamelaunch servers.

Digital Man mentioned something about the program needing some fixes. Started a thread here to get his attention since I'm not the greatest coder.

Port 2323 is blocked by firewall/not configured in router?
It's setup, seems to work fine, I used PuTTY and SyncTerm to connect from the office to my home computer, no problems.
