Bob,
If you'd like to have a qso, you usually can find me (and numerousothers) o
XRF005B. I live in Central time zone (GMT-6), if that helps. I'vechatted

I have had trouble getting the WinDV program to work on my setups with
a DV Dongle (first with Windows XP and Windows 7, both 32-bit). The DV
Tools program by Robin Cutcliffe, AA4RC, only works with regular
reflectors and repeaters, but NOT with the XRF systems.
I have a list of selected D-Star Nets that I started, since many nets
at dstarinfo.com have out of date information. However, I wanted to
verify the nets first before I added them to the listing. Yet, I have no idea why I can't get that program to work, and yet, I read that "it should"...without me having to uninstall DV Tools.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong??

Sorry, I've never used that program, or a DV dongle other than the DV4Mini, so I really don't think I can offer advice. I could supply
you with a list of the various XRF reflectors and their ip addresses,
if that might help you link to them.

Interesting. I found the website, and will download the software
between D-Star Nets this evening. I also got RMS Express working for Winlink 2000, and Outpost for Packet...not to mention stuff on my own
BBS. While it's weather and ham radio related, no RF enters or leaves
the BBS, due to antenna prohibitions. However, thunderstorms in the forecast the next few days may mean more downtime, especially with our tornado season starting soon.

When my neighbor watched a show on WAVE TV Channel 3 (60-66 mc/s) my Sixer on 50 mc/s came through Loud And Clear, something a TV Antenna Filter couldn't fix.
Typing that reminded me of the Ham Shack at duPont Manual High School had
to stop making QSO's on 15 Meters and changed the Coils in their Transmitter from 15 Meters to the 20 Meter Coils because a near by home used an older Television Set with an I.F. frequency of 21 mc/s and every time the Ham Shack transmitted on 15 Meters the people would call the School and

I guess mine would be 2XLT :-)
When I saw 2XLT I picked up a book printed in 1964 that has a A.R.R.L. Countries List.
The first Amateur Radio Prefix that started with a number in that list
is Morroco - 3A .
I don't have a current country list of prefixes to know what Country has Call Signs that started with 2X , but I never tried to earn a DXCC Certificate, so I'm just familiar with U.S. Prefixes W, K, N and A might also be a Amateur Radio Prefix.
I also know VE Stations are in Canada and VK'ers are in Australia and Stations in Great Britin have a G Prefix.
I don't know it all, but still working on that.
Before I started to write this message I saw in another post that You said Your Mom's Dad also operated a Ham Radio Station.
What was His Last Name?
I bet I probably knowed of Him.
I was 16 in June 1958 when I got my Novice License in the mail.

What is Your Mom's First Name?, I may have heard Her on 2 Meters.
Her First Name was Anna
Last names of course were Prunty (Dad exited the scene when I was 6)
then my first Stepdad's last name was Lents and we lost him during the first Iraq war... then the last stepdad was Helmick and we lost him in 2006, heart attack.
With my illnesses, mom does not have time much to enjoy anything. She still is on the CB every now and then and uses the handle Dixie Doodle.
Unfortunately her big antenna was ruined in the storm that was the remnants of Hurricane Ike when it blew through here. Since I became disabled I can't put it back up for her and she's 70... not able to do
it herself.

Mom would have went over there and fixed their antenna :-) back in the
day she was able to do things like that and getting on a roof didn't bother her. We were the wierd family in the neighborhood when we had
roof damage we put a new roof on our house ourselves. We did Dave
Ramsey before Dave Ramsey did Dave Ramsey's money program.

There is now an addon that addes an AMBE chip, so you do not need necessarily a HT with an AMBE chip to use it.

Same in Australia, but I don't know of any federal regulations
pertaining to
ham antennas here.
Bob Seaborn wrote to Tony Langdon <=-
In Canada, federal law says that any antenna structure can be up to 15 metres (about 45 feet) high without going through any approval process.
Anything higher may require a fair bit of hoop-jumping. This
supercedes any local, municipal, or provincial requirements (however
may not supercede a requirement for a building permit). I'm sure it
also supercedes any private property requirements, unless a contract is signed concerning it. But even then an ancient (middle 1800's) British law states that a contract cannot supercede any federal or provincial
law. I have personally seen this upheld in a local court, but not over
an antenna structure.

They are VERY PICKY with inspections (I live at H.U.D. subsidized
housing for the disabled...I've been fully disabled for 12 years). They
do NOT allow things like antennas (indoor or outdoor), cable across the floor (tripping hazard), and because RFI might interfere with medical devices of the residents (considering the law of entropy, or that the
users didn't have them set up right)...never mind that folks would file
a lawsuit at the drop of a hat.
Plus, I was always interfered with when on the air, and with the
analog
repeaters, you had no idea who was causing the interference. The idiots
who were doing it were too cowardly to admit who they were, or why they
had a grudge with me. So, I operate "internet radio" (much to the angst
of the ham radio purists), but operate OUTSIDE of Arkansas, where I
feelmore welcome.
Inspections are done on a regular basis to make sure the resident
isn't
living in squalor (never mind the apartment being overrun with
"clutter"),
with things clean and orderly (sinks, toilets, showers, floors, etc.).
At
times, I wonder if it's a hospital or a military deal, where the floor should be so clean that you can eat off of it, or the bed should be
madeup so tight that you can bounce a quarter off of it. Should one fail
an
inspection, they can be given a 30 day notice to leave the property (eviction). I believe they have to give residents a minimum of 24 hours notice, but it wouldn't surprise me if they implemented "surprise inspections".
They will NOT do things like "random drug testing" because "it's an invasion of privacy"...although during one recent inspection, they did
open up my medicine cabinet in the bathroom to see what was in there
(the
same was done when requiring home health care nurses after minor
surgerylast year). However, because all of the medicines had been
legally
prescribed, they couldn't touch me in that regard. To me, if you're not doing illegal drugs, why are you worried??
They won't make it a "gated community" to keep the non-residents,
somewho may be dealing in illicit drugs, out...because the gates would
be a
hinderance to the local transit system (which leaves a lot to be desiredaround central Arkansas), as well as to police, fire, and
ambulatory
personnel. Several years ago, one of the residents grandsons had a meth
lab set up in the storage shed.
The management has a complete list of all my medical conditions, surgeries, prescriptions, doctors, etc. I *WANT* them to know what
is going on with my health, so they know I'm not doing illegal drugs.
I doubt they'd ever implement a policy to get a warrant and do a "strip search" to check for "track marks" (i.e. from those doing injections of heroin, etc.)...but I'd comply with it, since I'm not doing illegal
drugs,
nor have the desire to do so. They are free to contact my physicians forblood work reports, etc. So many out here would probably get "a
friend"
to substitute for them in providing a bodily fluid sample for analysis.
One time, they were going to come in, while I was prepping for a
needed
colonoscopy. I told them that "you'll find me naked"...because you have
to be, once taking the purgatives, as you'll spend the next several
hours
on the toilet. Their reply "it's a normal bodily function". While they
have found polyps 3 times, they've never found colon cancer.
While it seems there are more negatives than positives living here,
the
apartments are handicapped accessible, which has become a necessity for
me over the years. I use a cane wherever I go, with a walker on standby
for the really bad days. I may eventually wind up in a wheelchair. And, being able to manage my health is necessary, because without my health,
the hobbies go by the boards.
I have to have fellow Volunteer Examiners help me with the testing supplies at the sessions now...mainly moving the heavy cases. I print
my exams with the ARRL/VEC Exam Maker Software, which guarantees that
every exam is DIFFERENT. No point in trying to cheat, when the exam of
ones neighbor is going to be completely different, in both questions
and answers.

Do You have a Amateur Radio License Allen?
My mother was the HAM in the family... back in the time we were in
Europe she got a lot of attention because of her southern voice. I
can't remember her callsign but she had a very distinct voice. She has
a Yaesu set at home but does not use it much anymore.
I haven't been on the air for several years but can't remember a Ham YF (YF = Wife) with that last name.
Before I moved to Indiana in 1967 I had been a Member of the Amateur Radio Transmitting Society Club (A.R.T.S. Club) and the Kentuckyiana Radio Club (K.R.C.) and the only Lady Hams I knew were Mrs. Pat Schafer K4QIO and later on Mrs. Terry Rowe.

A lot of her equipment is German... I noticed names like Grundig and Blaupunkt (Spelling not correct I am sure) I know from my performing
arts she has a good microphone it's a Sennheiser (spelling not my best again).
Typing that reminded me of the Ham Shack at duPont Manual High School had to stop making QSO's on 15 Meters and changed the Coils in theirransmitter
Even though I went to YPAS for a while, my academic classes were at Dupont... they did not like the YPAS kids at all. Now they have made magnets for performing arts spread through the county. Valley has an acting magnet... PRP now has the choir magnet (Doss lost it) both and
PRP got multi-million dollar auditoriums. Valley High school got a
nice keyboard/piano lab too and a recording studio.
I think the amatuer radio stuff is now at Fairdale with their Emergency Services magnet. They also haveradio classes at Shawnee where my
cousin went for the Aviation Magnet.

I guess mine would be 2XLT :-)
When I saw 2XLT I picked up a book printed in 1964 that has a A.R.R.L. Countries List.
No that's Double Extra Large Tall :-) Being 6'3 used to be bean pole skinny. The Skinny ship has sailed.
Before I started to write this message I saw in another post that You said Your Mom's Dad also operated a Ham Radio Station.
What was His Last Name?
McDonald....
I bet I probably knowed of Him.
Probably... My grandpa's name was Everett Clayton McDonald Sr.
Seems like ham Radio was very popular in the East tennessee Mountains.
If you talked with any of them would love to know.

The Channel 3 on VHF never was a good channel... everything seemed
to interfere...
I have always had a preference for german radio, TV, household
appliances and whiteware, since my father was employed by Siemens, as engineer for planning/building power and high voltage stations/lines.

Dieter Rams was one of my favorite industrial designers -- his work
with Braun appliances and electronics resonated with me. I still
have my Braun Aromaster coffee maker from college.

I just "inherited" a Harmon Kardon 330B from my mother (she's moving
and doesn't have room for it). It was my parents' "HiFi" in the 70s,
and from what I've seen is highly sought after because it has a tube
sound, although it's all ICs. Old HK stereos from that era just look incredible to me.
Keeping on topic, I have a BaoFeng UV-5R and am studying for my
license while listening to the aforementioned FM receiver. :)

I still have all radio sets made by NordMende, Grundig and Siemens,
until the latest two TV sets that became of asian manufacture.

deck, a couple of AR-3a's, and a d:o turn table.
