Hello Charles,
I ran across a description of what Ham radio is, on Facebook yesterday.
I haven't read the whole thing but it seems to analyze the subject
very well.
The URL's are www.hamsphere.com and http://hamradio.se .
Have a nice day,

Thanks! I'll be reading that sometime this weekend :)

Unlike things like CQ100, Echolink, and D-Star, both licensed hams
and SWL (shortwave listeners)...who may or may not have a ham radio license...can use it. It simulates what the HF bands are like. There
is a yearly fee, and you can purchase various "shack accessories"
from their website.
However, my schedule is so hectic with doing stuff for my 92 year
old Mom (in a nursing home about an hour east of Little Rock), ....
Well, you seem to have all the time in the world to write long messages.
