    gouramis and bettas, perhaps?
though i would recommend you install a chiller to keep temp constant and at
    a tolerable level. JT

    Greetings all!

I live in a part of Southern California, USA, where it gets pretty
darn warm during the summer months -- at least two days in the last
week the temps got up to 104.5 in the shade. Since I don't have air conditioning, you can imagine how warm my 20-gallon fish tank can get
-- it certainly is routinely higher than the maxiumum indication of 82 degrees on the tank thermometer during the summer. There is no way I
can move this tank into a cooler location unless I move it to the
basement. I do put ice in the tank when things get desperate.

Surprisingly, the fish I have had in this tank have not done badly --
I guess I have varieties that tolerate high temps.

Anyway, I got a new tank recently to replace my old one, and I will be
buying a bunch of new fish soon. Can anyone recommend types of
freshwater fish that are known for being particularly tolerate of high temperatures?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Chuck

"Salvinii cichlids are a good match for the temps that you are describing.
They are local to you and very pretty too IMO.

    I have them all beat

    the desert pupfish

its a native fish to SoCal it lives in the ponds in the deserts, that get way too hot in
the summer and way to cold in the winter, even to salinities from 0 to above 45ppm

also a fan across the tank will keep it much cooler, the catch will be increased
evaporation which means more top offs and higher humidity in the room
