Hi, as the subject says, I have extremely cloudy water. The tank is---
fully cycled 20g and is a year old. I know this cloudiness is a
bacterial bloom, the water is not green, so an algae bloom is out. The inhabitants of the tank are:
*All Fish Are Fully Grown*
4 Black widdow Tetra
6 Zebra Danios
1 Snakesking Gourami (6 inches)
2 Serpae Tetra
Water Chemistry
*All measurments are in ppm.*
Nitrite = 0
Ammonia = o
Ph = 6.8
I had a 6 inch Pleco, but I removed him in hopes of that would clear
up the water. But removing the pleco was to no avail. I have tried everything! Crystal Clear drops, did nothing. Adding extra carbon to
filter, did nothing. more water changes, did nothing. ( I do a 25%
water change every other week.) Cutting back on feeding, did nothing. Minimizing the time the lights are on, did nothing. Adding AlgaeFix
drops (I thought it might be a freakish algae bloom.), did nothing. I
have no clue what to do. Is it possible the filter is inadequate? It
is a Liberty Eheim. Any suggestions would help.
Many Thanks...

I hope I'm not being an idiot, as I'm sure you're not, but are you
absolutely sure you are not overfeeding? That is the #1 cause of cloudy water. You seem to know what you are doing, though. I worked in a pet
store, and 95% of the time, the cloudiness is caused by overfeeding. Sometimes, it may be you added too may fish at one time, or even algae.
If it is possible, get a handful of gravel from a tank that has not
problems, and has been used for quite a while, maybe you LFS will give
or sell you some. This should help. Also, adding cycle bacteria will
help, you cannot overdose it, it's impossible, and it NEVER hurts.
Hope I help you.

Thank you for your reply,but the reason I am confused is because the
water has been this way for three months now.
First off, the tank is indeed cycled.
The methods I have tried are thus:
1. Cutting Back on feedings
2. Cutting back on the time that the lights are on.
3. Adding extra carbon to the filter.
4. More frequent water changes. (Currently I'm doing 25% changes every other week.)
5. Adding "Crystal Clear" drops. They supposedly clump the bacteria so
the filter can pick it up.
6. Moved to largest fish o a different tank.
I am deperate will do anything suggested!
