• Amonia Levels

From Mike@1:278/230 to All on Wednesday, November 03, 2004 06:57:00
Have a 75 gal community tank. Been established for 2 years. No current or prior problems with dying fish. Have started to pay more attention to water quality. Can't get Ammonia level to "0". Have performed 3 50% water
changes in last 7 days. Vac gravel at same time. Feed once every two days. Use de-Clor with replacement tap water. Ammonia level drops to 0.25 day
after 50% change but increases to 1.0% after that. Run out of ideas. How
    do I eliminate the amonia.

    Thanks very much.

    Mike,

How many filters do you have, and what type. The more space for
bio-bugs the easier to remove ammonia and nitrite.

How many fish do you have in the 75gal?
Do you have enough filtration and airation?

Which ammonia test are you using? Do you have plants? Have you been
doing gravel cleanings with your water changes?
