bbbsd loaded as user can't bind to ports less than 1024. I load bbbsd as root at bootup which allows bbbsd to bind to the necessary ports. bbbsd will load as root but switch to run as user.

The command line I use to load BBBS here is:

./bbbsd 3 22 telnetd:23 httpd:8080 ftpd:21 rawd:24554:binkp "quiet" "fork" "uid:bbbs" &

Note: All on one line.

Without more detail your issue seems to point to the impossibility to bind any process less than 1024 with a non-root user.

Try to start telnet using a port over 1024 and let us know.

If bbbsd starts, then you can check Serverfault[1], or do some search on [the web search engine of your preference].

Here is the command line I use to start my bbbs.exe:

bbbsd 1 27 telnetd:23 httpd:80 rawd:24556:binkp

Hopefully that will help. Also, to bind BBBSD tp a port lower and 1024 you might want to try running it with sudo.
