    From T.J. Mcmillen@1:129/305 to All on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 21:56:41
Anyone else have trouble with NET2BBS with ANTISCANNER option turned on? Either it will say "NO ANSI DETECTED" or "PORT SCANNER DECTECTED" whenever I try to logon my BBS with fTelnet. (either web or mobile [and that's wifi and mobile data there as well) .... Is there some way to push fTelnet to FORCE ANSI sent to the BBS? I emailed Rick about this, still waiting to hear back, but just throwing it out there.

If I turn OFF the antiscanner option I get 100000000000000 hits on the bbs address and it just ties up a node for a bit and it's anonying as shit because these a##hole foreign kids have nothing better to do.

... God created all men. But Sam Colt made them equal.

You can try adding your ftelnet proxy IP to the Whitelist= line in your net2bbs.ini file.

For example if you're using proxy-us-nj.ftelnet.ca as your proxy try adding

    Whitelist=162.253.176.32

    From https://pcmicro.com/NetFoss/guide/net2bbs.html:

WhiteList= List of up to 4 IP Addresses which will always be
    accepted, bypassing the AntiHammer, AntiPortScanner,
and Maximum Same-IP connections checkers. They are
comma delimited. Hostnames and wildcards are not allowed.

Well, that worked, but the ANSI not detected is still killing me.

Did you use the "new" embed tool?

    http://embed-v2.ftelnet.ca/

It has the default terminal emulation set to ansi-bbs.

Yeah but it still fails to "show" ansi 95% of the time .... sometimes it works, most it doesn't. I'm at a loss. I hate having that crap in Net2BBS turned on, but there are so many morons pinging port 23 (for what, I have no idea) ....

If you're running on Windows, maybe check out this poweshell script to block some of the problem areas:

    https://www.gregsitservices.com/blog/2016/02/blocking-unwanted-countries-with-w indows-firewall/

I blocked the usual suspects (China, Russia, Korea, Iran) but I was also getting hammered from Italy quite a bit too. Not enough to warrant blocking just yet, but enough to take notice.

I use PeerBlock to block a lot of these rogue countries.
