Telegrafix developed RIP, not Frank LaRosa (former SearchLight author).
And the other protocol you are talking about is NAPLPS, which was partly developed by Prodigy (wow, if I remember Prodigy, then I _AM_ old

Hi all! I was wondering if I was the only one actively fooling with SearchLight anymore these days and still connected to FidoNet?

I keep meaning to. The first BBS I co-sysoped was Just Say Yes in San Francisco, CA - one of the founders of NirvanaNet. I loved the interface, felt like it was "Just Enough" on both the back end and the front end and liked the way it felt. The sysop ran a light-bar interface, don't know if that was stock but it was a big part of why I liked the board so much.

I wonder if it would run on a Raspberry Pi + DOSBOX?

The money that was spent to license RIP and develop it into other BBS softwares was like a cancer that helped speed the demise of some authors. Sad days... Clawson did nothing but hasten the demise of a lot of systems... Far as I am concerned R.I.P. RIP.

That is correct. SLMAIL was never updated to be y2k compliant. This
viamail has now become interesting and quick google searches didn't find
much on it. Do you have it on your board? I tried the addr in the tag

SLMail was always a pain. Frank never thought much of the FTN networks,
so really didn't put in the effort to make it work well and Pat's sole
purpose was to sell more RIP tools, so SLMail remains the bane of my

Yes, I'd definitely like to check it out and see how/if we can

with Searchlight till I get a box for it. We have it running in DOSEMU

have to give it it's own box. That should give plenty of time to check
