I'm asking again, is there a BBS software for Mac OS (PowerPC) or OS X (Intel).
I have several good Macs, and would like to have one or more of them
doing something instead of sitting around idle.

Mystic has an OSX version. I have no experience with it
myself but there are a couple BBSs I know of that run it.

Mystic for OSX is excellent. For the PowerPC, maybe try Hermes?
http://www.hermesbbs.com
Hermes does not run on OSX it runs on system 9 or the Early Versions of OSX that can run a virtual box with system 9 in "Classic" mode.
I thought development for Mystic stopped in OSX.

i remember when the hermes related echos shut down... that was when the moderator (i think) and (possibly) last person running it closed their system for lack of traffic and interest... it was one of those SadDays<tm> :(

Is Mark May still around? Is the Remote Access JAM Message base tools still obtainable?

yes and no... yes, he's still out there... no, he's not in the BBS stuff any more...

Always Mount a Scratch Monkey
If I do what I want ...
I need
1. NNTP Inbound gateway to download newsgroups
2. SMTP in/Out for e-mail
3. Some sort of kill file to delete newsgroup spam. I can adjust my killfile to anything but need a "Killfile" program
if I have minimum this I should be able to run remoteaccess again...
if not mystic.
ALso do you know if I can get my multiline RA Key back?
ALso do you know if I can get my multiline RA Key back?
as the sole remaining beta tester and head of the beta team, i can see that you registered your RA at v0.04 when you were 1:11/60 but you'll
have to contact the new owner, bruce morse, to get him to reissue your key... i cannot do that part...

Be advised: the PowerMac G5:s use _a lot_ of power, even when just being idleThey also tend to warm up any room they are placed in. :)
Any chance you can make the sofware for UUCP and SMTP available for
FREQ? Or FTP. And does Bruce still answer his e-mail?
Thank you millions... not so much for the software advice but for
getting the old memory going again.
Now is there a form of Killfile for the JAM message base to nuke some
of the newsgroup spam.

http://mysticbbs.com is were it can be found if you'd like to have a look.
Here is the error message I got while trying to install it:

Well, my other choice is a Mac Mini (or Mini Mac, whichever). I bought two of them cause I though they were so neat, and they work great.

I believe I've heard of people running Synchronet on OS X (probably
built from the source code). Others have mentioned Mystic already.
Yep, yep. Mystic :)

It's not just a PowerMac, it's a room heater too!
