• MultiMail Editor

    From Ted G. Freitas@1:218/700 to All on Monday, April 10, 2017 21:04:11
    Hi All,

I was curious what everyone is using for a text editor in multimail? Right now I have notepad pop-up but was curious if there was a better editor to use without breaking MultiMail.

    Thanks in advance!

doesn't multimail have an internal editor? IIRC, when i use MM, that's the one i use... it has been a while (a couple of years) since i did offline mail, though...

I don't think so, mine just launches notepad and really there is not
much you can really do with it. I'm thinking I'll just have it launch my sublime text editor or TextPad. Right now I'm testing out TSE Pro just
to see if it's something I would want to keep using, but honestly I've purchased WAY too many text editors in my life to shell out more money
for another text editor that I'm only going to use for one program. :)

I'll have to see if I can find IIRC as I've never heard of it.

Any editor that you can call from the command line and pass a file on
the command line to should work. I used to use fte at one time.

Again, if you can pass the name of the message text file to OpenEdit! on
the command line, then you can use it. You just need to update the
EDITOR statement in the config file for MultiMail. But, let's take this

    Here ya go:

    Roberts-MacBook-Pro:~ robert$ brew search joe
    joe
    Roberts-MacBook-Pro:~ robert$ brew install joe
    Downloading
    https://homebrew.bintray.com/bottles/joe-4.3.sierra.bottle.tar.gz ########################################################################

    100.0%
    Pouring joe-4.3.sierra.bottle.tar.gz
    =fI /usr/local/Cellar/joe/4.3: 115 files, 2MB

So, yes, the joe editor IS available for macOS and OS/X if you install Homebrew from brew.sh.

Interesting... I'm not familiar with hombebrew, but I looked it up. Not sure if it's something
I need or would use though. As long as vi is working I'm good, but I WILL keep this in mind for
    the future!

Anything else you know of that I would need homebrew for? It says something to the effect of
'things your Mac should do' or something like that.

Well, .49 is working fine under Mac now! Opens in Terminal and uses vi editor, which I'm comfortable with now. :-)

You should give .50 a try and see if you like it better :)

Okay - you talked me into it - just logged back in and downloaded. Going to halt this mail

Okay - back again - won't run on my system - I put mm in place of the old one - it runs and I get this -

Leave off the "; exit" on the end. You can always Ctrl-D when you exit MultiMail.

It is especially handy if you pdo a lot of coding as it has a lot of the missing stuff that XCode does not have. That and a lot of stuff ported over from Linux :)

I didn't put that in - that's just what it shows me when I 'double click' that app...

Also - I CAN get into Neptune2 now - but it won't d/l a qwk pak - gives me an error...

    Gotcha - I don't do any real coding. :-)

Hey - finally took a few minutes today to do a mail run - it connected
here (I) just fine - went to connect to II and it showed 'connected'
to NetFoss, etc. - that one line - then it disconnected.

Not sure if that helps or not. :-)

Yeah, was having problems with that system so pulling that system
down for a bit to see what the deal is. Right now I just have it
functioning as a UUCP feed for anyone who wants a newsgroups feed.
