that depends on who has the code and what they can and are willing to do with it... they might just give it to you if you're going to open source it and keep
it viable in today's world... open sourcing it could be a big job, though, if commercial closed libraries are/were used... those routines would need to be replaced...

Sadly the rightsholders refused to communicate back, but i guess they like their assets
not being used or sold for money for another 20 years where the value goes down
even
further.

Why are you wanting to resurrect something like that when there's much
better alternatives out there already that are free? I don't understand spending time and energy on that.

I can think of several programs: Qodem (which is a workalike of the
original Qmodem), Syncterm, Netrunner, mTel, Zap-O-Comm (ZOC; not cheap
but has been around for decades), and others that I can't think of right
now.

I use Qodem under Window and Linux. Under OS/2, I use Livewire which is OS-specific.
