I'm wondering what the state of the nation is on good
telnet clients these days.
Every one I use has some sort of shortcoming and the
result is that I use two differernt ones and that's
annoying.
I need one that:
1. Has proper ANSI support
2. Can do X/Y/Z Modem downloads...well..Z Modem at the very
least.
3. Is telnet capable. I know I mentioned that, but I want to
make sure :)
I don't even mind paying a few bucks for a good one...
Any suggestions?

I've been useing HyperTerminal. It's not too bad. Zmodem works decent
and
it has nice ANSI support. You can get it at www.country-computer.net
Howard, I've been using QModem 2.1 for Windows 95 and NT (I use it on
Win2k and XP) This file is available for d/l at my BBS, and it works
GREAT for modem AND telnet.

Excellent point....WinXP for the most part although
I'm playing with the idea
of formatting my laptop and putting linux on it.

Aha...thanks for pointing out the difference. I've noticed that all the terminal programs I've tried recognize the ansi
colour, but not necessarily
the
proper ansi characters. Using Putty for example, my BBS looks freaking horrible
because all the images are made up of letters and
symbols rather than the
block
and lines etc that were used to create the image.
Hyperterminal and MTelnet
have no problems with it.

That's what I thought - I recall downloading via
ZModem over telnet with some
terminal programin the distant past, but I can't seem
to get Hyperterminal or
Telix to do it now. Maybe it's my lan connection...hmm...
I agree...ftp is for file transfers, telnet is for
terminal emulation and for
the most part I don't have a problem with that. In fact, the Linux BBS probram
I use has the ability to allocate each user a little
ftp space to do just
that
type of thing with. The problem is offline mail. I
want to download my QWK
packet and I can't.

ZOC terminal works pretty well for ansi emulation...it's kinda pricey though. It does: XMODEM, YMODEM, KERMIT, ZMODEM transfers. Ansi
