• Need to insert a PKT Password in PX Generated Netmail Packet

From Allen Prunty@1:2320/100 to All on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 16:32:52
    Friends,

I have a little problem here that I am desperate for some help for. I use Winserver and Platinum Express for my Fido Tosser and Bink D/P protocol to
send my e-mail out. PX will put .pkt passwords in all echomail packets but when I have to generate a netmail packet it leaves it unsecured without a .pkt password.

Is there a utility out there that can append a .pkt password to a non secured .pkt file? If someone could whip one up that works I would be greatful.

My uplink that I route my mail through is not budging in his requirement to have .pkt passwords on all netmail messages. I've been told that it's
unlikely we will see any more Platinum Express upgrades or developments.

I've tried (unsuccessfully) to get fastecho to pick up the .pkt file from a generated inbound directory and move it to a .pkt passworded file. All I can get it to do is toss it to a .msg and leave it there.

If someone has any other ideas on how I can get my netmail .pkt to route and send properly I would be very thankful for your help.

    Thanks

    Allen

That sounds like a bug, probably unintended and probably not too hard to fix.

I don't know who created or maintains that software, but is it possible to
get a bugfix upgrade? You are going to have to jump through hopes to get
    around this.

I used to use a very simple and efficient program called CFRoute to pack
*.msg to my bso outbound many years go. I don't know if that would work for what you need or not.

    Hello Allen!

If you can ask your uplink to turn off pkt passwords that would solve your problem.

I must admit I have never bothering using it as session, filemgr, areafix passwords covers my security requirements along with some additional stuff to restrict secure up/down links - although these days with access via a ISP it is
even more pointless for the additional security :)
