1) Polling of NC/hub???
What kind of cron job have others setup/use for this????
2) TIC processing???
3) Since Binkd needs to have external help for FREQ's what are others using???? Setup?
4) Gating -
While I am waiting for a reply to my (re)join request to get a proper
node number... a few questions on set up, or err... fine tuning the setup... things seem to be working good... Thank you ALAN!
1) Polling of NC/hub???
What kind of cron job have others setup/use for this???? Since in my
FD
days I had "metro" service the local calls to my hub/NC were "FREE" so
I
polled often to get echomail, and routed netmail etc...
4) Gating -
Not entirely binkd related... but since I was GUUCP at the time, and I worked with Jason Fesler on the betas and releases of GIGO I am
curious as
to what others are doing to gate at minimum netmail < - > email. And
had
PGH's first ISP provided uucp (Telerama, sadly gone in 2008 :( )
GIGO is dead, Mr. Fesler doesn't seem too interested in getting
bothered
about it.. the KEY gen form is dead on his site...The gigo-l and gigo
echo
are gone....the various posts about GIGO and being asked about it are well, rude.

2) TIC processing???
I am leaning towards tinyTic as its related to JAMnntpd and
crashmail..
others? Setup?

FD dealt with all that mostly.....some of the stuff I was gating
in/out via UUCP at the time with GIGO did some things externally...
There is also FREQ-U that is a more simple freq setup much like FD
used back in the day, and maybe some still use today.

Thanks for the mention Alan! It was written from the BinkleyTerm
docs, and will do pretty much everything that Bink's built in FREQ processor did. If it works for you, please let me know what you think
of it.
I think FREQ-U is elegant simplicity and works just the way freqing
has worked in the past.
By the way, I have FREQ-U here, the linux version, are there others
and how do we get them?

My binkd is daemonized so it is always listening and watching to
outbound to see if anything needs to be sent. In my cron setup I just touch the .flo file for nodes I want to poll. Here's a look at one of my crontab lines..
03 */1 * * * touch /usr/local/fido/outbound/00991e23.flo
Htick will do everything you need to do with tics. It will require that you take the time to do the setup but it will do what you want it to do.
I am in the midst of setting up mfreq. It also requires some setup but I think it is well worth it.

Both of those are freqable from the authors or I can plonk what I have here in your inbound for you to look over.

That just seems wrong to my brain.... as the mailer should
have/understand something
something along the lines of
binkd -nP1:135/0 ~/fido/binkd/binkd.cfg
While I get that in the net age of Fido, that polling is/may not be as imperative... but in my brain PROPER Fido'quette would be to at least
poll some what every few hours or so...just the way I see it.
meh....meh... htick and hpt would be nice, if they were separated from
the rest of the bloat of that other project... I aksed about how to separate the bloat in another echo...

You can send them over, still use the temp node we setup for now... paperwork still in progress.
Along with any example setups for both and comments you have on preferences.. FREQ-U may be more up my alley, as its FD related...
It works well in my setup since binkd is daemonized it is always listening and watching the outbound all I need to do is touch the flow file of the node I want to poll and I'm done. I don't need to start another binkd.
binkd -nP1:135/0 ~/fido/binkd/binkd.cfg
Ahh.. I haven't used -n before that I remember. That might work better for what you are doing. If that does what you need to do add a cron entry that does that.
It's still what we need to do. I suppose now that there are no tolls wecan
poll at will and I usually crash everything to the destination.
Yep, just make and install what you need and your done.. :)
It's important what order you install things.. areafix before hpt etc.

URRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
