Unfortunately, Scott died some years ago and there's no way to
register his software.
Scott did an uncrippled version for TBBS called TBBSNC (and TBBSDIFF
for updating the nodelist with the latest diff). Since Scott is no
longer around and eSoft no longer has any interest in TBBS I think
Richard could easily get hold of a copy from, say, www.tbbs.org (I
think it is). If not I have a copy which I still use.

I didn't realize Richard was running TBBS -- I didn't pay enough
attention to the message <blush>. I have a custom built xlax* which
Scott did for me some years ago, and truthfully I no longer remember
what was special about it! :-)

<bummer>. I called the number in the docs, got a lady who didn't

Played with other nodelist processors but kept going back to xlax.
KEpt intending to register it, then dropped out of fidonet. I
couldn't babysit a busy hub system and travel on the road with a
traveling show and I had dial-up internet.

On 12 Apr 2007, Richard Webb wrote to Dallas Hinton:
As I wrote to Dallas, TBBSNC *is* XLAXNODE but without the need for registration. If you can't find a copy, let me know and, when I get
back to the UK from France, I'll send you a copy.
I don't know if Richard is running TBBS or not. It doesn't matter
because TBBSNC works just like XLAXNODE - it *is* XALXNODE to all
intents and purposes, but with additions to work with TBBS (which one doesn't have to use if one is not running TBBS). However the major advantage is that it needs no registration. It was issued free to TBBS users and, presumably, eSoft paid a royalty to Scott. But since eSoft
has washed its hands entirely of TBBS all the TBBS software is
appearing for download free of charge from several servers.

dOn't have www access these days, but would be interested in giving
that a try.
dO have regular email if that would be easier, otherwise I"d have
to check with my uplink see if he'd allow you to send it through
him.

FWIW: from what i saw on the website, one can still get and run TBBS
;)
Hello Richard,
Well, I'm back home. I don't have the original distribution archive of TBBSNC but I guess it isn't needed as it's exactly the same as
XLAXNODE.
If I put it up for ftp can you get it? Or is there any other way of my getting it to you?
If you can ftp try:
ftp://mesnil.demon.co.uk
and you'll find it amongst some junk of old nodelists.

Getting an 'uncrippled' copy from TBBS might make more sense than
trying to find a working license keys. Keys awere easy to obtain and essential if one wanted to use XlaxNode in unattended batch mode.
In Scott's words,
"During the evaluation period, the program will request keyboard
input each time it is invoked. After installation of the
license key, the program will operate without intervention.
It can then be used in an unattended batch file."
The keys cost nothing and were promptly forwarded by Scott when heBOy wish I would have known
received a written request. I recall that I got my first key from
Scott in 1991 when my system became 1:17/67 and my second license
when I became NC of Net 3409 twelve years ago. The keys are simple
but I think they are node-specific.

you may route it thru my node to richard's, david... my system
routes files for all and richard connects here for everything as he
is a POTS only node...

Now a question as I haven't given this a test drive yet. Do I need
to rename xlaxnode.ctl or anything else?

scenerio is to just send it to me and i'll reattach it to him...

maybe even twice if my uplink routes fileattaches as i sent it to him, too...

Yes, but only after I used a command line ftp client (lftp), shortly before having to leave for church, I had to open up the church this afternoon, for the church "band".

Ah, I wonder if your normal client actually sends the word
"anonymous". I have a French computer that sends "anonyme" and, of
course, that doesn't work.
I've just been to church, too. I went to a neighbouring church in Henley-on-Thames to size up the opposition (I'm actually organist and choirmaster in Wokingham) but their advertised choral evensong wasn't
on!
IN the docs I have for 2.56 it said this, and at that time they
stated $15 per node. THIs tells me they were node specific. HE
might have started giving them away after I got out of fidonet but
from the docs I have for 2.56 it states $15 per node and sure
indicated that they were node specific.
BOy wish I would have known
that. AS I said the docs stated it a little differently.
ON the order form in his docs it states:
Again. I acknowledge what the cost of a key was but I did like the
free delivery and Scott was always a gentleman to deal with. And
his programs have always worked. I've run XlaxNode and XlaxDiff
under DOS and various Windows iterations. They still work when I
run them in a Windows XP Pro DOS box.
