• Log verbosity setting

From Sean Dennis@1:18/200 to All on Sunday, October 04, 2009 15:18:02
    Hi, everyone-

I actually fired up and used BT the other day to crash a file to a
POTS-only system. I looked in the log and to my surprise, the damn
thing is set to full debug mode and I'd like to change the logging
level. Something tells me it's "LogLevel" for the keyword but I don't
remember the scale of the number after that. Anyone remember this?

    Thanks,
    Sean

P.S. I'm hoping to have a POTS-capable system here very soon.

    YEp, maximum of 5 iirc.
Yep, 1-5, with 5 being most.

FOrgot about the "debug setting for that.

    HOpe that helps.

LogLevel goes from 1 for minimal logging, to 6 for full logging of everything.

    Hi, Andrew-

So would 3 be about right for a system that is running smoothly and doesn't need the verbose logs?

It's been too many years since I've done dialup I guess... :)

I'd say that would be a good place to start.

There isn't much that happens dialup these days.

That's why I'm not going to dedicate a line to dialup; just going to spring for
the CommStation 9000 and a distinctive ring number. The CS9K will pay for itself in under three months. I'd also like to have a fax number for dealing with the VA (they love to fax paperwork all over) and to have for other dealings in my professional life.

Besides, I'll switch to feeding Fidonet via POTS once I get it (really!) and perhaps you and me to POTS for Fidonet if we're feeling really sadomasochistic.

There's nothing quite like listening to a modem handshaking while you're waiting to get onto your favorite BBS.

Yes, indeed. I remember I'd come running into the BBS room when I had POTS so I could see who was calling!

1 to 5. 5 being the most logging, 1 being the least. Logging is keyed on the first character of the line; whatever that character is determines what will appear in the log depending on the log level.

It depends. Some log analyzers don't work properly with minimal logging.
My system is set to 5. Binkley shuts down at midnight on the first of
the month to close out that month's log; the script moves that log and then restarts Binkley with a new log.

I was using somebody's Binkley log analyzer but I didn't like it so I wrote
my own REXX scripts that go through the log and do what I want.
