    Hello everybody.

Any body running BinkleyTerm with a GSM Data Modem. Any problems, or
    things
that need to be changed ... ?

I don't have any information for you, but I'd love it if you kept us all abreast of what you find out. With the stories coming out of Egypt that Fidonet technology was being used to keep people informed when the internet went dark, any information regarding getting Fidonet to work independent of internet and POTS could be important - and might make for a fun project at
    the very least!

One of the important things that needs to be done is to keep using dialup BBSs.
From time to time I look at my BBS stats and wonder why I still keep 2 dial up nodes online when only the 2 telnet nodes get traffic -- then I remember why. :-)

Use us or lose us, people--we're still here but need encouragement! :-)

I still get a few callers now and again on my dialup line; enough for me to set
aside my voice line as my full-time BBS line as I have a cell phone for family and friends to contact me on. I've not done it yet but I will soon.

    Later,

I am not convident, that BinkleyTerm can be used to make FTN mail/file exchanges possible over GSM modems, but it should be reasonably easy, using BinkD, all you would need to do, is sort out a means of exchanging IP address'es which would change each time you connect, unless you have a "secure" base station to operate from ... , and can leave your system on all the time ...

BinkleyTerm I suspect is going to be problematic for the simple reason, that GSM Cellular providers no longer provide a digital/analogue interface for the use of analogue data modems ... , at least in this part of the world ...

Have just gotten 2x SIM cards, from different providers, with what I hope are fully unrestricted APN's ... , which should allow me to run BinkD Servers on the systems which have those SIM's in a GSM data modem, attached to them.

Now need to finish building the test systems ... , and see how things go ... :)

Point taken! I run a dial-up BBS; as part of my Comcast bundle I have a land-line that barely gets used except for overseas calls. It's got
    unlimited nationwide and local calling.

I unearthed a stack of unused modems when I cleaned out my storage room at
work and found a beautiful USR Sportster V.Everything still shrink-wrapped.
I'm going to be calling BBSes again. :)

Excellent -- I'm running USR Courier V.Everythings - should connect perfectly with you. Let me know if you get here and I'll upgrade your status!
