• ChatGPT?

From August Abolins@1:153/757.21 to All on Monday, February 13, 2023 17:22:00
The 100 million user milestone - ChatGPT.

ChatGPT just crossed the 100 million monthly active user (MAU) mark.

Last month, ChatGPT broke records by getting to one million users in just five days after its launch. For context, this is something that took Instagram two and a half months to do. It took Twitter two years to hit one million users. And it took Netflix three and half years before it attracted a million users.

So ChatGPT blew everybody out of the water on that metric.

ChatGPT gets to 100 million users in just two months.

This is the fastest software application adoption in history. Even Instagram took two and a half years to attract 100 million users.

Of course, there are immense implications here.

Just last week, OpenAI launched its $20 a month subscription program for ChatGPT.

Microsoft now owns somewhere around 75% of OpenAI.

I've watched a few YT vids about it and what it looks like. Seems interesting. It also seems that if could replace Google searches for info.

    It is definitely interesting.
As usual the truth is somewhere in between.
But it is definitely very interesting.

Same for their previous product Dall-E, where you can let AI generate pictures.

In retrospect, it's probably poised to make people dumber and
not do their own research/homework/original work.

And.. the user has no control of what sources are used.

Still, very limited and only pre-programmed tools to produce
    very limited pre-programmed results.

    ?? not really.
It "painted" a very nice picture with a computer for me in the style of Vermeer.
That is not what I would call limited pre-programmed results.

Somebody still had to include the elements of Vermeer in the
catalog of options. That's where the limiting comes in.

There are all kinds of filters that can be applied to photos to
make them look like "in the style of" already.

    Well yes and no.
It gets trained with a large number of pictures and their corresponding descriptions.
    Usually from huge catalogs.
So there is no person selecting anything, except lets throw at it as much data as we can find.

There are all kinds of filters that can be applied to photos to

Yes, the only difference is that this is absolutely NOT what DALL-E does.
It creates a new picture based on a huge library of existing input pictures. That is a extremely big difference!

But there is still the human element of programming it right.
    There is nothing self-determining really.
