Hello ALL!

I just jumped on this echo and was looking through some of the posts from the last six months.

I would like to share some of my experiences.

In my wifes apartment we have time warner cable and a cable modem with a D- Link router attached I have magic jacks plus installed on the router RJ45 ports
and am using them for telephone and fax use.I am getting ready to try a magic jack will a modem, will update after testing. I have a smart phone with a hot spot on it and use it with my laptop to tight VNC and Telnet into my machines when on the road. You can install Mozilla Firefox on any machine reguardless of
OS and download one of two or three telnet add ons. then you can telnet from the browser ( telnet://xxx.xxxxxx.xxx ). It works great and looks a lot better than other telnet clients.

Is this advice intended for users of MS Windows?
Certainly on unix and Linux systems I would expect the stock telnet program running inside something like an xterm to suffice and probably even work better
than a browser plug
-in.

I am running Firefox with the plugin on a Ubuntu box and get a better cleaner screen presentation than with the linux clients!

Ubuntu is a good OS, I do not like any telnet client on any OS because all of the ones I have used come up partial screen with no way of enlarging them where
as I get a full screen presentation with firefox and a telnet plugin that is much eaiser on the eyes and much nicer to look at.

ubuntu uses the same clients as all other *nix systems... but all of them have problems of various kinds and none of them work like folks used to the DOS way of doing things work... those being good ANSI support as well as "within-the-connection-stream" file transfers... on *nix file transfers are done on their own connections external to the terminal... on DOS style (winwhatever included) systems, the transfers are just more data in the currently used connection stream...

now, if the above plugin things assist with that, i don't know... on winwhatever, i use my favorite terminal program and make it the default handler
for those types and protocols...

ubuntu or debian or redhat or any similar *nix system has nothing to do with this...

Hello all!


NEED Help fron a couple of volunteers!

I am trying to test my modem setup so I can report the results in the COMM Echo as I promised a few weeks ago.

I have a unique setup, it is a magicjack attached to a switch port on my network, a USR Sportster 28800 hooked to it and to com 1 on a ubuntu box. I am running a WINXP VM on the ubuntu box and Have D'Bridge in a DOS box doing the sending and receiving.

I have been testing it with Mark Lewis. As of this afternoon after writing a Modem Control file for DB and opening up the com ports to 115200 I was able to get a 19200 connect. FYI here are two log excerpts from this afternoon.
