Hello Matt,
As UC Riverside alum Æ03, I am deeply embarrassed by the
undergraduate students who supported the divestiture of
Israel. Last year the student government of Riverside
approved a resolution supporting divestiture and now the
University of California Student Association did the same
in early February.
The Prime Minister of Israel came to America yesterday
and tried to tell Americans what to do, and how to do it.
I found his remarks both demeaning and insulting.
There he was, standing before the Congress, having no
regard to the President or the Office of the President,
telling Americans that he knew better than everybody
else what needed to be done with Iran -
Stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, by any means
necessary, except negotiation.
In other words -
The Prime Minister of Israel, educated at Harvard, wanted
America to go to war with Iran. He wanted Americans to fight
Israel's war. Just like he wanted (and got) George W. Bush
to invade Iraq. Yes, that was Bibi telling George what a
swell idea it would be to get rid of Saddam Hussein.
I did not see any Israeli troops invading Iraq when GWB
pulled the trigger. How many American lives did we lose
in that mad escapade?
Republicans want American boots on the ground. But none
are willing to say it. At least not publicly. If they
cannot get American boots on the ground in Syria, or again
in Iraq, where is the next best place? Iran. Like John
McCain once sang on Saturday Night Live - "Bomb bomb bomb,
bomb bomb Iran".
The hostile attitudes towards Israel only lead to
increasing animus against the Jewish people who are on the
campuses of the UC system.
Why should we (Americans) fight Israel's wars for them?
Our campuses should no longer be a proxy venue for the Middle East
conflict.
Young people do the fighting, and the dying. Old people
give the orders, and count the profits. While the Prime
Minister of Israel complains about Iran's wish to build
nuclear weapons, he fails to inform the world about Israel's
own stockpile of nuclear weapons, which it got from the
knowledge and technology from the good ol' US of A.
Nothing is going to change locally when it comes to worldwide affairs.
Why should it? AIPAC owns so many congresscritters it
basically owns the USA.
Either lobby your congressional representatives or move
there if you want change to happen either way.
It is a worldwide conflict between the Arabs and the Jews.
The Arabs own the oil and the Jews own the banks. And guess
who owns the most congresscritters?
Unless UC students gain some common sense, I implore the
students to reconsider their rash opinions on divestiture.
Until then, I hope conservative alumni and friends of
Israel divest from the UC system until things change
The more things change, the more things stay the same.
