A node in fidonet hatched out a TON of duplicate archives today...the areas he hatched them in and from were the EARTH fdn's MODIS and WEATHER, also he hatched some others in MBSE's FDN and BBBS's fdn.

After much aggravation when I realized why my inbound was incredibly FULL of bad tics and archives, I deleted the entire bunch of them. I don't think there were any files lost, just a bazillion of duped files <sigh>

Please folks, make sure you have your tick processors set up correctly.

    Thanks,
    Janis

I sure hope that wasn't me, was it?

I ask because I have been having a problem that I have been tinkering with for a while to try and fix. I just solved that problem as a matter of fact.. :)

That problem didn't involve files at all so I hope/don't think any files would have escaped from here?

No, it wasn't you... I contact people when I see this kind of thing happening <smile>

    speaking of yuck TICs...

    1. the pascalnet hatches don't have a REPLACES verb...

    2. someone was hatching some legion door over and over
with "REPLACES replaces" instead of the proper file
    name...

i've been going to say something for a while but just haven't... your post opened the door for me ;)

All this is due to keyword REPLACES not being compulsory and I think it should be.
You have a need to create a wee course on file submissions and hatching to these new sysops/ file co-ords.

    Good luck with that :)

    1. the pascalnet hatches don't have a REPLACES verb...

Hmm.. I'll have to take a look ...

i still have one here for ppoint.z55... i've been editing them to add the necessary line because i absolutely loath turning on "force replace"...

    2. someone was hatching some legion door over and over
with "REPLACES replaces" instead of the proper file
    name...

geez.. I'll try to watch for that one as well.

those are the three in the LEGION FDN... the files were

    -rw-rw-r-- 1 sbbs sbbs 538001 Aug 25 23:30 legd081a.zip
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 sbbs sbbs 500341 Aug 26 00:20 legl081a.zip
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 sbbs sbbs 467160 Aug 25 23:30 legr081a.zip

i'm not sure if those dates are what the files actually started with, though... i know there were times when i'd have a couple of them with .1, .2, .3, etc added when they were duped before being processed... i'd fix the
first TICs "REPLACES replace" lines and then have to wait for all my links to pull them before renaming the .1s to their proper name and fixing those TICs for them... then wait again and repeat until they were all
processed... this only because i didn't want to stick my links with the same situation... everyone linked here that got the files from here got them with proper REPLACES lines in the TICs...
