Who has the responsibility of generating the binkd.txt/binkd.nl file(s)?
I see that they are created using a script by:
"Created by binkd_nodelister.pl version 1.0 - 26 November 2002
# Copyright (c) 2002 by Jerry Schwartz and Write by Night"
I ask because BinkD chokes on the latest BINKD.TXT file that I grabbed from filegate earlier. Seems there are many, many, many entries such as:
Node 1:11/331 ftn.emergencyscene.net
-
Node 1:11/340 binkp.echo-base-bbs.com
-
Node 1:120/0 ftn.rocasa.com;95.154.237.85 -
Node 1:120/229 xblade.mooo.com -
Node 1:120/301 bbs.legionhq.net:60178 - Node 1:120/302 mojo.synchro.net ;bbs.mojosworld.net -
BinkD here chokes on the lines containing just a "-". I cleaned up the first 1000 or lines. But if I run BinkD I get:
03:40 [21818] /home/bbs/sbbs/binkd/binkd.nl: line 1027: error in configuration
files
03:40 [21818] -: unknown keyword

Hmm... where do you see that in the list? There is a problem, I agree, but I don't see nodelister.pl in the list.

I see CRLF at the end of the domain field in a lot of the entries, and yes, that would cause problems.
Jame Clay creates the list but he hadn't been able to make a new list in a lon
time because he was moving to more permanent location. I believe that is resolved now. I'll contact him and ask him to get out a new version.

That's what I saw also. Taking them out fixes the problem as far as BinkD seem
to be concerned.

Thanks. In the BINKD.TXT file I didn't see (Unless I missed it) him listed as the person generating the list.
I did a little searching for the nodelister.pl file to see if I could acquire it and generate my own BINKD.TXT nodelist. <g>
Who has the responsibility of generating the binkd.txt/binkd.nl file(s)?
IIRC, RJ Clay has been doing them...
I see that they are created using a script by:
"Created by binkd_nodelister.pl version 1.0 - 26 November 2002

that's an old copy of the script... jame had to recover some stuff and
apparently hasn't recovered the v1.3 of the script... i run it here and create
my own mybinkd.txt files...

Do you by chance know of a source for the most recent version of that script?? <g> I wouldn't mind having the ability to make my own should
the need arise.
Umm... Nevermind. <g> I found the v1.3 of the script and have already generated the nodelist files for both Fidonet and Fsxnet without any errors.
Would/could you plz send me a copy of v1.3? (Email in sig or BinkP crash to 393/68 will work)

:)
FWIW: i believe there should also be something similar for the other weird nodelist formats... I-ARGUS is the other one, right? IIRC, jerry did scripts
for both but i've never used the argus one and don't have a copy of it handy..

I was glad you mentioned it, and to find it again... IIRC, I lost a
good number of files around then, and that was one of them...

I'm not sure, but I think Scott Little, Z3C, uses his own script... in
any event, he still generates the files each week in the I-ARGUS area.

i'm sure others were happy, too... i'd say to rehatch it again with the REPLAC
so that it gets distributed to everyone carrying the I-BINK FDN... then there are more copies out and about in case i loose mine ;)
you should also get a copy off to jame! i'm sure he'll be appreciative

oh... i didn't know and hadn't looked... it would be good for that one to also
be distributed if it isn't already...

1.3 is the most recent... jerry isn't in fidonet any more and this is all we have...
the script /should/ already be in the I-BINKD area since at least
2007...
perhaps it should be hatched with the replace verb so that all
connected systems will get it and those that didn't get it the first time around will get it this time around??

I've had a thought about redoing such a utility using some Perl modules (especially one that can be used to read through a nodelist file) but haven't had the time to work on it.

Is that how it was originally distributed?

Not that I can find here. I have records going back to 1995 of all
files ever hatched by the filebone, and later called the Filegate, and there is no record of BNLPL13.ZIP having been released.

since the script is copyrighted 2002, i must have picked it up from somewhere
and placed it there on my system... sorry about the misinformation... still think it a good idea to distribute it so there's more places to grab it from when it goes into hiding ;)
I'll leave it to Jame as to where the best place is to hatch the later version since we _did_ have a file echo, I-Nodelist/I-UTIL but that
I-UTIL file echo has been removed from the filegate.zxx file (no files
in years). Perlfdn's PERLSCR is still listed however.

Would you be so kind to send the FSXnet one over to me (nd fidonet
would be appreciated) I've been gunshy with the binkd.txt. I haven't
used the file for a while.
Yup. I will send them over in awhile. Remodeling (Sheetrocking) the laundry room at the moment. <g>

Yikes... that's hard work. NO worries the latest binkd.txt thing is
working ... better yet tech me how to run a perl script in windows and
how to roll my own and I'll never bother you for them again.
