• Joining FileGate

    From Daniel Roberts@2:250/9 to Janis@filegate.Net on Thursday, August 27, 2009 11:13:16
    Hello Janis,

I'd also like to to take a feed from FileGate, in the UK or directly if possible. Would also be happy to setup to feed back in.

As you can see I'm now joined back into Fidonet and all things are working (well most).

Sounds good, Daniel... I'll send you some netmail.

    That's good to hear :)

    Take care,

    Hi Danny!

I see netmail is a bit premature.. you're not in the nodelist yet :( I'm assuming Vince is working on this though, so no big deal, and I'll answer here <grin>

As far as a feed back in, say for your own file echo like "Photos from England", that kind of thing, you would connect here for that for sure. The file flow for the filegate is typically:

file echos -> 1:261/38 -> filegate HUBs |-> Backbone distributers, and downlinks.

We do things this way to prevent duplicate files from going through the system,
and so we can check for problems like Viruses, trojans, etc.

I can connect you to all the file echos here no problem.. or if you'd prefer a feed closer to home, Vince Coen at 2:250/1 is our UK Feed.. I suggest that only
because my internet connection may not be as fast as Vince's is.. my isp gives a 3M line, but anytime I send anything to anyone, the whole connection suffers.. no doubt they barely know what they are doing at tds.net (our ISP). We've tried yelling and screaming at them to no avail :(..

Anyway, let me know which way you prefer to do things.. You can connect here for sure if you decide to upload files as I said..that's the best way to handle
    that part of things :)

    Take care,
    Janis

    Hi Janis,

Vince at 2:250/0 sorted me out with a feed, thanks for pointing me his way.

Kudos to Vince for spending a good while on the phone with me yesterday figuring it all out.

Am merrily sorting out allfix now to sort incoming files in to the right
    areas.
Seems to be a bit of a black art importing to the right directories but hopefully will get the files in the right areas with a bit of patience!

Thanks again for the info about uploading, when i have something to
contribute will be sure to send it to you.

    Cheers
    Danny
