    Hi Folks,

1:123/500 was disconnected somehow from some file echos.. mostly in the PDN file echos. That's where I noticed the problem since files recently
hatched in those areas weren't going out to Ross. I still have to check the other file areas, but I expect they're ok given the announcements in fdn_announce.

So.. anyway, today I'm sending 1:125/500 the files that were missed.. :)

    Take care,
    Janis

1:123/500 was disconnected somehow from some file echos..

seems that they were disconnected from a lot more... i found that many of the message echos i carry were no longer flowing so i sent in a blanket reconnect message to their areafix and had a bunch come back saying the area was not available but it is still listed in the backbone.na file release on the 23rd...

i've not written them a message yet to ask what happened but obviously a pretty
ugly something did... i guess maybe i should also send in a blanket allfix request to ensure that all the file areas i carry are still turned on, too :/

Hmm.. I talked to another fellow who also had to relink his system there. Sounds like the murphy guy was having some fun. I hope you are all re-connected now.

We had some fun yesterday - my coffee-pot must have shorted out and tripped the
gfci switch in the kitchen outlet where the coffee-pot was plugged in... which is when we found out what else was on that particular circuit.. like _half_ the
outlets in the computer-room which is off the kitchen. My system was (note past tense) plugged into one of those affected. So poof.. there went the whole
circuit 'til we found the outlet that had the problem.. nice safety feature, but a dog to find sometimes Lol

That was in the early morning yesterday... after finally getting things back up, I swear TWCable must have cut internet/phone/tv (love those bundles Lol) so
many times I lost count yesterday.. dead dead dead at least 6 times... wonderful day. I checked all my msg. bases since that nasty shutdown early in the morning could have zotched some stuff and it seems all is ok... perhaps something weird like that struck over there as well..

    Take care,

That's one problem I do not get as I use a 2200 & 1400 Kva UPS boxes looking after all mainline systems including the phone pabx.

We do suffer from power cuts being in the sticks (smallish village).

Understand. I wouldn't doubt there are some that go back and forth between Bob
and I that don't go to Ross since he's only dealing with what's on backbone.na.
(I think). Not real busy places, but once in a while there might be some traffic. For the reports I generate for Jon Justvig's Fidonews, I just use backbone.na to look for traffic in those areas.

Nice :) The fellow who owned this house before us had some extensive wiring done in the computer room which is why I was suprised that darn outlet caught me in the next room hehe.. There's even a separate breaker box in this computer room apart from the one in the basement. The house was originally built in the early 1800's then stripped down and rebuilt sometime maybe 20 years ago..There is a generator here that runs on gas, that we can turn on if we lose power.. but from I remember Ron telling me, it's really only good for lights, and the fridge. He said we'd have to get a bigger one to use for the systems. I'm sure the guy that lived here didn't have as many systems as we jam in here either Lol.

or run an extension cord for the UPS while it is on battery and then plug it into the cord giving more time to find the problem with the original outlet ;)

i've actually moved running computers from one location to another without shutting them down... the only concern was that the battery in the UPS lasted for the trip or that there was a power supply at some midpoint of the trip... in this case i'm thinking of, it was only across town so maybe 15 minutes... one has to definitely be careful performing a feat like this :)

yeah, i forget what size our generator is but it serves the purpose... we only connect six or eight circuts to it when we have to use it... two of those are the computers a both ends of the location... others are specific outlets which we then connect heavy duty cords to with outlet expanders on them so we can get
    more than two devices operational...

eg: the aquariums and a couple of lights in the living room...
telephone base station and a light in the kitchen...
the fridge and freezer in the location...
the fridge and freezer on the back deck...
the fridge and freezer under the location...

the computer areas don't need any lights because of the monitors and we're touch typists ;) that's seven 110 circuts plus the one 220 for the AC which uses half for the heater fans... i think the generator is a 5000 watt unit... we get 8 to 12 hours on a tank of gas depending on the load... we can easily extend that by connecting a larger tank to its fuel line hose... the existing tank sits on top of the unit and acts as a cover for the motor and generator...
it is a gravity fed fuel system so everything is out in the open and easily available...

dang, sorry for the ramble... it must be past my bed time :?

I have a Cyberpower 685AVR, and I believe it gives around 30-45 minutes
after the power goes out. It's at least enough time to safely shut down the systems and reboot then when the power is back on.

Granted, most of the time when the power goes out, so does the internet. So I'm really not gaining anything except the fact that the computers didn't
just shut off with no warning.

Agreed. When that happens it happens. You can't do anything about it.
Though noone is going to come bang on your door when it does, either..

    Exactly. :)

I think I'll just keep a bunch of extension cords plugged in all over the house... "oops lost this one, lemme try over here" haha.. just kidding. You know you know all the ins and outs of a house after you've lived there for a while, this newbie (well new since last July at least) seemed so, I dunno solid.. live and learn.

i've actually moved running computers from one location to another without shutting them down... the only concern was that the battery in the UPS lasted for the trip or that there was a power supply at some midpoint of the trip...

I would think so.. :) This move to Slaterville Springs wasn't soooo far.. Maybe an hour and a half- 2 hours, something like that. Long long winding tiny
road with slow farm vehicles and few distances of passing lanes though <grin>

That sounds good.. I would think that systems wouldn't use that much power but electronics in that sense isn't my thing. If it were me, I'd say screw the refridgerator, gimme the systems. We can always eat out. Matter of fact I might mention that to Ron.

haha.. I just did mention it to Ron and he reminded me that the outlet that my system is plugged into IS on the circuit the generator controls.. so cool.

eg: the aquariums and a couple of lights in the living room...
telephone base station and a light in the kitchen...
the fridge and freezer in the location...

Well, now that TWCable did some work last week, even their connection here is much better than it was. That's something. I was pulling my hair out for awhile with them disconnecting without warning on my Static account almost every night after midnight ... just for a moment but a pia.
