• XQ-ILC - InterBBS Last Caller mod, problem!

From xqtr@21:1/111 to All on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 11:57:28
In case you are wondering why the XQ-ILC mod, is crashing lately and it's unusable, it's because there is a corrupted data packet, in the FSX-DAT echoarea. It's not that the whole message base is corrupted, it's just the specific message, which probably originated from another bbs, that perhaps crashed while posting it and the data packet ended to be corrupted.

An easy way to fix this, with out the need to update the code, is to delete the JAM base files for the FSX_DAT echoarea, from your bbs. In Mystic BBS, there are inside the DATA folder. When you delete them, Mystic will recreate them and the corrupted message will be gone, which will let the mod to work as before.

    Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Thanks for this update - I was wrong when I mentioned they were bad XQ-ILC data files; I've fixed this issue before and couldn't remember EXACTLY the fix...

I've downloaded yer msg and saved it in my 'mystictext' folder - answers to many common questions in that folder. :P

I could be wrong but for me the JAM message files reside in the directory defined by the message base path.

Also, rather than deleting those JAM files could you bot opt to run a reset on the message base from within Mystic? Just wondering?

Oh right - the XQ-ILC call # data is in other files in /scripts... right. Kk, thanks.

The *.lnk file is important. It contains your links for the area.

If the *.lnk file is deleted for any areas, check your links for the area. If there are no links for a message area localy posted messages will not go anywhere.

Check the setup of links (and everything else) if message areas are recreated for some reason.

You are right. The specific ones are inside the MSGS folder.

and deleting those essentially wipes the config for the echomail area you defined in Mystic... I could be wrong but for me the JAM message files res

The settings/config for the echo area reside to other files. Those fsx_dat.idx, fsx_dat.txt, fsx_dat.jam are only the files containing the messages. No harm deleting them.

Also, rather than deleting those JAM files could you bot opt to run a rese the message base from within Mystic? Just wondering?

Reset? how? The problem is that a corrupted message is inside that message base. There are many ways to delete only the specific way or make the script by pass it... the only problem is that it may a) need a script update, which may be even more difficult for some to re-install b) be even more difficult to remove the specific message.

So deleting the complete message base.. just seems to me, the easiest way, that anyone can done. If the it was another echoarea, that was affected i wouldn't recommend that way, but because it's fsx_dat which feels and "recycles" messages, it's no harm to delete it and you don't loose anything, that will not re-appear.

Just to clarify once again... I don't thing the message base is corrupted, just one specific message. I don't know exactly how that happened, but it's not impossible and it may happen again in the future.

The link file, contains links (who replied to whom) for the specific base and messages. If you delete all the other files and keep only the link file, to which messages/post will point to? Deleting the other files and keeping that, it may cause problems.

I am not saying delete all link files... only the specific fsx_dat files. If you don't trust me or be sure about it a) don't do it b) keep backups. If someone is not sure which files to delete or don't know where they are, just don't do anything!

And for those, that may didn't read the whole chain of messages, this is only to correct a problem appeared in the XQ-ILC mod. If you don't have it installed, just ignore the whole conversation.

I wasn't aware the .lnk file contains reply links, but I know it contains your linked nodes for the area.

I only know this because at one time I moved my message base files and I never moved the .lnk files with them and I lost my area links. Messages were not moving until I reset them.

Yep, I get you and I agree. If there is some corruption or issue let them go.

I don't use XQ-ILC and have no complains or comments about it.

I just don't want folks to lose their link information. In my own case locally posted message were not going out and it took me a while to figure out why.
