• Telix 3.51 Registration?

From Warpslide@21:3/110 to All on Thursday, June 13, 2024 05:39:48
    Hi All,

I've found a couple of Telix 3.51 registration codes online but I'm not sure how to enter them. There doesn't seem to be a place in the program to enter the code. Is there a secret command line switch or perhaps another executable not included with the shareware release?

I did find this crack that removes the nag screens which is what I'm using, but was curious how one goes about entering the reg codes:

I am not certain about Telix 3.51, I am running 3.22 here. With 3.22, there is a BRANDTLX.EXE that is included with the TLX322RG.ZIP package I used for registration. The BRANDTLX program inserts the registration information into TELIX.EXE.

I'd expect BRANDTLX to be for a specific version of Telix, I don't have the 3.51 version here. Telix 3.22 and the registration patch TLX322RG.ZIP are on Another Millennium BBS (another.tel) file area 2 (modem-related) in case you are interested in them.

Somewhat related - does anyone know the differences between the later versions of Telix for DOS? The version numbers that I think I remember are 3.15, 3.21, 3.22, 3.51. I don't recall noticing differences, but I wonder if there are bugfixes behind the scenes.

One of them was just to change the name of the company after an aquisition. Maybe 3.20 to 3.21?

Just downloaded 3.22 from your board and had a look.

In 3.51 you can press ALT-5 to bring up a top menu bar that you can use either the keyboard or mouse to navigate. I also noticed in 3.51 there are lightbars when editing the dialing directory and more options available in the ALT-Z menu, so there are certainly extra features available, not totally sure about bugfixes.

I'll backup the 3.51 TELIX.EXE and try BRANDTLX on it & let you know what happens, but I'm not expecting it to work.

I found this archive of Telix 3.51, in case any of it would be of use:

    https://edv-janssen.synology.me/html/elsa.de/download/files/datacomm/software/t elix/index.htm

Apparently ELSA bundled Telix with some of their modems (e.g. Microlink 33.6TQV and Microlink 56k Pro). Not sure of the differences between the bundled and the full version of Telix, but both are available, and both require registration.

It appears that INSTALL.BAT launches INST.EXE which asks for a name and serial number and, after some checking, creates a BRAND.DAT file which BRANDTLX.EXE (from within TELIX351.DAT, a ZIP file) uses to patch TELIX.EXE.

INST.EXE states that "The name must be at least 5 letters", and BRANDTLX.EXE (inside TELIX351.DAT) states that for the serial number "Proper formats are in the form X1234567-12345 or 123456-12345".

    Best regards

This is awesome, thank you so much! I just downloaded tlx351fe.zip and can confirm that this serial number works with it:

    I got this serial from:
    https://wyla.narod.ru/serial.htm

The name listed with this serial number is DjPaul [uCF] but it also worked with my name.

    You're very welcome!

I actually found an ad with "official" registration details: https://www.ebay.de/itm/404341434441
If I read correctly, it reads "514681-21708".
Like you say, any name can be entered, as long as it's at least 5 characters long.

For completeness, the trial version of Telix is of course also available online from many places, e.g.:

https://ftp.sunet.se/mirror/archive/ftp.sunet.se/pub/simtelnet/msdos/telix/teli x351.zip https://ftp.sunet.se/mirror/archive/ftp.sunet.se/pub/simtelnet/msdos/telix/tlx3 51-h.zip (HostPlus BBS system, inadvertently left out from tlx351.zip and needed by HINSTALL.EXE)

I tried it in an online x86 emulator, and it seems to be working fine. However it only works with the bundled version (tlx351be.zip), as the serial number format is different for the full version (tlx351fe.zip).

    Best regards

That's interesting to learn about 3.51, I hadn't seen the top menu bar before. I am connected right now with Telix 3.51, it seems to be working well, other than the items you mentioned above I haven't noticed other differences (but also wouldn't know where to look).

I use to use Telix. I even registered, though it would be a miracle if I could find it. I used it in th days od modems. If you can connect via telnet how is this done?

I guess one would have to use some serial-to-WiFi adapter like a WiModem232 Pro or something similar to connect it to the Internet. =)

I'm telnet'ed into my Mystic board right now using Telix & dosbox-x (thanks to AKAcastor for helping me get dosbox-x going!).

You just need to install dosbox and set one of the serial ports in the config file to modem (e.g: serial1=modem) and then set Telix to use the COM port you configured as a modem (serial1 = com1) and you're good to go.

In Telix you can type atdt bbs.agency.nz and it'll dial right out.

You can also use the "phonebook" feature with dosbox-x where you can map fake phone numbers to telnet addresses, e.g:

    5551212 agency.bbs.nz
    5552323 bbs.erb.pw
    5553434 20forbeers.com:1337

Then you can add those phone numbers to Telix's dialing directory, e.g call 5551212 to connect to Agency BBS.

Telix does run great under SVDM (https://wiki.synchro.net/util:svdm), but requires either a 32-bit version of Windows or NTVDMx64 installed (on a 64-bit version of Windows).
