I haven't been able to get Maximus to build on Linux .. but I did mess around with the DOS version only to realize that the software requires MUCH more
work than I am willing to put into it. It's plain ugly out of the box so
pretty much every single piece of configurable data will have to me touched

Agree with you on the amount of work, Maximus is not for those short on time, the configuration files, the message/file areas, then the menus, etc, would probably take 5 times longer (or more) than a menu driven product. Overall though, if you did have the time, the end product would be exactly what you were looking for.

I still have it as an open project but on the back burner right now :-)

    Jikey.

Yeah the good ole days! I ran it back in 90's it was a project even then! Just looking for fun stuff to do an I ran across (on cd) old maximus and Lora BBS files from 1997 that I had saved and thought it would be a fun time killer...

    Hello Rick,

Is anyone using or playing with maximus on current OS?

Sean Dennis is running Maximus 3.01 on ArcaOS.

I was going to mess around with it for old times sake but cant seem to
get it to build on current distros..

    You mean build from source?

I did that a short time after the source was released. It built successfully but it wasn't easy. Max ran OK but mex didn't so that took away a lot of Max's functionality for those who built it. Some folks did try to work that out but I don't know if they ever did.

Squish worked OK, there were some minor visual glitches but it worked as I remember it working on DOS and OS/2.

I think that was around 2005. You could likely build it today but it might need some makefile changes or.. might need a skilled programmer to adjust the code to compile on todays compilers.

I ran Maximus from 1993 to 2001 or so. I still have a CD, complete with Fido message bases from 1999 or so. I should fire that up and see how bad my ANSI skilz were back then.

The last OS/2 version of Mystic does not require EMX I believe. How is
EMX broken? It is not the development VM that I put out there is the
    wild, is it?

Where did you put the runtime DLL file at?

Installed main path C:\EMXRT with paths to C:\EMXRT\BIN C:\EMXRT\DLL .. eComstation is doing some funky things .. so I might cave in and go with
ArcaOS .. eComstation wont install from a USB CDROM drive (which info that I have read says it will, but it doesnt) ..
