    Hallo Havok,

Looking to join some so I'm just checking!

My BBS is connected to FidoNet, fsxNet, tqwNet, SciNet, SFnet, BBSnet (a small local FTN in Germany) and WeedNet (where I'm the FTN hub).
And I'm connected to DOVE-Net via QWK.

I would like to join RetroNet, but all efforts to apply there weren't successful.
SciNet has some major outages in the last months, so I would consider it
    more or less dead...

Then create a new one. This is not facebook / whatsapp / twitter. If a hub goes down, the nodes can create new distribution paths. Of course if everyone is to lazy to do something about it, the network is dead. But it's caused by the combined neglect of all members of the network. If it's not important enough to take action, that's fine. But don't complain about something that was part of the deal from the beginning. It's not the first FTN that stops working, because of a single point of failure and/or the 'owner' lost interest or was unable (for whatever reasons) to continue providing service.

    Hello Warpslide & deon!

Id happily run as a hub for it - and can relinquish that (if required when Frank returns.

    Awesome, thanks Deon.

I might make an effort to reach out to those on the SciNet nodelist and see if they'd be interested in connecting up to you as well. I'd direct

If/when this is realized, I'd be interested in joining the alternative feed (hub)!

The main hub (77:1/100) appears to be down since July 27, as you have already pointed out. Although a couple of days isn't really that much time -- maybe we should wait at least a week or two? Of course checking for interest in the mean time is a good idea, should the outage persist!

Deon, if/when this is realized, please feel free to add me to all message & file echo areas and assign a random password (same password for session, PKT, Areafix and Filefix would be just fine) and send it to me somehow (e.g. crashmail to Zip at 77:2/107@scinet) together with the connection details, and I'll start polling you. Thanks in advance!

Speaking of this, if we do change the mail flow, should we all queue a copy of all our new messages to 77:1/100 as well, so that if/when Frank's system is up again (and if/when he returns) he will be able to catch up? As messages don't take much space.

Or should we just export everything new to the new hub only, and then see if/when his system comes up again, and if/when we hear from him, and take it from there (e.g. revert and discuss the future mail flow with him)? Of course, performing "parallel exports" would result in getting all [others'] new messages back as dupes once the main hub comes up again...

    Just thinking aloud.

    Best regards

His bink has been down since about the 27th but the network has been down much longer than that. I was still able to poll his system and send him ping netmails, but would never get anything back. (From any of his addresses).

What's funny is his backend systems were still compiling new nodelists and making them available on his website, but they weren't flowing via the ftn.

Then his SSL certificate expired, but I was able to click past that. Now his website is completely down as well. (scinet-ftn.org)

My plan would be to export messages to both deon & Frank's system. If he stays offline for an extended period I'd revisit that. As you said, messages don't take up that much space by today's standards.

No, there wont be any need to do that.

In fact, anything I receive would be queued up for Frank (so you wouldnt need to either) - and Frank can always RESCAN from me when he's back.

Dupe's shouldnt be a problem - in FSX Hubs 1,2,3,4 send all messages to each other in a mesh, and it works well...

Yeah sure. Folks can get me via netmail, or email deon at leenooks dot net.

    So I'm set up.

For the SciNet nodes, if you want to point your system at my Hub, that will get mail flowing again.

If/when Frank comes back, you can continue to stay on my Hub, or connect back with Franks. (Or export to both of us - dupe checking and SEEN-BY processing should illiminate dupes.)

If you want to stop your exporting to 1/100, you can, as my system will be exporting for Frank's as well (and he can always rescan my system to catch up, if the exported mail gets lost).

Send me an email/netmail with your SciNet node number, your BINKD/EMSI settings and a password you want to use, and I'll configure you on my system.

Zip - you are already set up, I'll netmail you your password :)

BTW: By default I also use packet passwords. I hub for a few networks, and packet passwords help make sure I dont process a packet incorrectly...

    Hello Warpslide!

On 30 Jul 2021, Warpslide said the following...
What's funny is his backend systems were still compiling new nodelists
and making them available on his website, but they weren't flowing via the ftn.

Ah, yes, I also noticed that. The latest nodelist via FTN was from day 169, I think...

My plan would be to export messages to both deon & Frank's system. If

OK, I'll do the same here, too.

    Best regards

On 31 Jul 2021, deon said the following...
No, there wont be any need to do that.
In fact, anything I receive would be queued up for Frank (so you wouldnt need to either) - and Frank can always RESCAN from me when he's back.

    Ah, yes, that's true!

I'll export to your hub only (again) then. :-D

    Best regards
