Hi everybody. This seems like a newbie question, and it is, but I am new to Mystic and I am having trouble installing door games. I am not sure what to put in the configuration. Are there some instructions somewhere on how to install doors on Mystic? I used to run a BBS back in the 90s but I've forgotten most of what I knew back then. Do I need a fossil driver or some kind of drop file? I'm totally confused, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The first thing is what kind of door do you want to run? It's likely that it may be something you can only run on a 32 bit system and ideally on Windows not some dos-box type emulation.

There are other doors like Galactic Dynasty and For Honour that Apam has created and they run both on Linux and Windows.. we run a inter-bbs league for them here in fsxNet and there's some guidance in the infopack about how to install them etc.

I am not an expert in this area but have run some doors on Windows and Linux so can help you a bit, others will also chip in with their advice and guidance :)

There are door servers that offer you the option to link to their cloud based service so you don;t have to install the doors locally... and many love and use them , and that's all cool too... it kinda depends on if you like/want to run them/install/cong etc. locally and enjoy that sort of thing or if you don't want to both with that but just have some avail on your BBS via a doorway server / service..

Welcome back to BBSing! Are you running a Windows system or Unix? If your using a windows system maybe this will help a bit. I've had luck with most of the games I've run but a few of the older ones like Yankee Trader I haven't been able to get to run. I use Netfossil to run the doors here (I think 1.14 is the one I'm using) Just has to be unzipped. On my system I have a NETFOSS subdirectory under my main \Mystic directory. In this folder I have a NF.BAT file:

Set up the doors using the instructions for each door. In the Mystic menu editor then you call the NF.BAT passing arguments. For example, here is my Trade Wars setup:

Action List:
Command: (DD) Exec external program
Data: d:\mystic\netfoss\nf.bat /N%3 /h%0 d:\mystic\doors\2002\TW.BAT %3

My tw.bat simply goes to the directory and calls TW2002 TWNODE=%1


For some of the newer doors you can use the DOOR32 Action basicly works the same. For Galactic Dynasty I have:

Command: (D3) Exec DOOR32 program
Data: d:\mystic\netfoss\nf.bat /N%3 /h%0 d:mystic\doors\gdynwin\rungd.cmd
%Pdoor32.sys %N %H

My rungd.cmd navigates to the directory and calls GalacticDynasty.exe %1 %3
(I don't remember why I'm not passing %2)

Thanks, Paul. I would like to install the doors on my own computer if possible, but playing them on the cloud would be ok too. I love some of those old-school games like Barneysplat and Operation Overkill. Really though, I'd be happy to get anything at all to work. I've altered my Windows settings to allow me to run 32 bit programs, but it doesn't seem to have worked.
