Hi there

It's been nearly a year since we added a bunch of new echomail areas to fsxNet and I figure it's a good time to review which are worth retaining and which should be removed.

Volume of traffic indicating interest in the subject etc. I think is a good indication but perhaps should not the only consideration.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what echomail areas should stay/go/be added etc.

Cryptographics seems pretty niche to warrant a whole echo, as is Amateur Radio, but perhaps BBS's attract people in Amateur Radio.

I'd like to see an echo for Philosophy.

FSX_GAMING - never looked at it, minor gaming mentions go in general
FSX_SPACE - never looked at it.
FSX_SPORTS - never looked at it.
FSX_RETRO - low usage, but look in when it has activity
FSX_TRANSPORT - never looked at it. Boggle...trainspotters?
FSX_VIDEO - never looked at it, again minor mentions I put in general
movies tend to be current and transient.
FSX_DIY - it got a run, but died an un-natural death some time back
FSX_FOOD - never looked at it.
FSX_GARDENING - went the way of DIY I think...
FSX_ARTS - never looked at it.

FSX_TST - makes sense, even though 90% of new systems seem to initially
post to general.
FSX_GEN - I know it was busy busy... but it could probably handle more
I'd rather read one busy echo than 10 3/4 dead ones.

FSX_MYS -
FSX_MAG - None of these are useful to me, and I don't know what they actually FSX_BBS - generate....
FSX_ENG -

FSX_HAM - I think this things biggest issue is HAMs appear to be a dieing
breed, but it still does better than some of the others.
FSX_CRY - Deader than a doornail. As mentioned never seen a message in it. FSX_NET - Meh you need to tell me when to check in.. otherwise I ignore it. FSX_ESP - No habla...
FSX_ADS - Shrug
FSX_STA - I still think most stats belong in the echo they are for. There's
so much "junk" in there its hardly worth looking over.
FSX_FIL - Shrug I can't process files anyway...
FSX_BOT - I have to wonder does anyone really read this? Are we posting to it
for the sake of posting?
FSX_DAT - Shrug
FSX_GAMING - Shrug, mentions of what I'm playing from time to time I put in
general. Never looked in there I don't think...

Strictly my 2c worth...as they say "good advice costs nothing, and its worth the price". In my realm most of these are dead space and I carry them for
the sake of carrying them. If you're going to have one, you might as well
have the lot kind of theory. I'm not sure but maybe its possible to merge
some of these... gardening/food... DIY/Gardening... they have some kind of confluence of interest. Many I just don't know anything about, from my
side, you could remove them or not it'd make no difference.

Hi Avon,

Based on amount of traffic, and my own personal likes/opinion, the
following ones could be removed:

GAMING
SPACE
SPORTS
TRANSPORT
VIDEO
MUSIC
DIY
FOOD
GARDENING
ARTS
MAG
ENG
CRY
ESP

I think several of them could be combined/consolidated, like:

VIDEO, MUSIC, GAMING ---> ENTERTAINMENT (new).
MAG, ENG, and (maybe) MYS could all be in the (existing) BBS area.
Possibly GAMING, ARTS, GARDENING, FOOD could consolidate to a new area
called HOBBIES.

Anyway, hopefully you get plenty of opinions and can condense everything
the way you see fit. Thanks.

For most echos, I would vote for them to stay - so we can provide a
wide variety of topics.

As for the following echos, as far as I see, the traffic is rather
low, so maybe merging this into one echo could be an option:
