constrains put on operators as to where you can get your echomail feed from... people went to PC because it was slightly cheaper

Refresh my memory -- when did PC come into being? I know that I have
never been constrained as to where I could feed my echomail from. In
fact, for several decades my feed was not even in my region. That only
changed when Ross Cassell closed up shop.

I know that I have never been constrained as to where I could feed my echomail from. In fact, for several decades my feed was not even in

yeah, some nets were quite open and truthful about getting feeds... others not so much... i was turned down one time when asking for a feed and told that i had to get it from my *C/*EC to which i responded "not if i'm paying the phone bill." :) besides, it was cheaper for out-of-state long distance than it was for in-state long distance... i was given a free feed out of texas one time because i only had a 2400 modem... once i had the mail here, i could feed it to
anyone else that wanted it... at 2400... 20 to 30 minute mail transfers were common and at $0.10US/minute, it would add up at the end of the month... eg: 3x
a day, 30 mins each, times .10, times 30days in the monthly billing cycle, $270US before taxes and fees...

Not sure, but that may have been before my time. I just checked my
netmail folders. I believe I have kept every netmail in or out since
even before I was given a node number. Earliest is spring 1996.

I do not believe that I ever used phone to pick up my mail. I was using internet and SIO in OS/2 to connect to Jerry Gauss in South Carolina as
a point. I did use phone to connect with local BBSes.
