    The biggest problem is that the chat format in instant messengers does not quite match the format of conversations in Fido. In addition, we often have to stumble over the incompatibility of UTP-8 and eight-bit encodings adopted in Fido.

    That's the factor I've struggled with trying to explain when talking about why one thing or another isn't functioning like it does in Fidonet.

    The messages themselves are written in Telegram the same way as any other IM or SMS message is. There isn't anything that you can do about that. Your bot converts that to MSG format used for Fido, and the reverse for Fido to Telegram.

    Thank you for noticing that. You are quite sharp after all! ;)

    I had thought that maybe you undid the lowercase option for the --to: and subj: commands. And I thought that maybe a space was now required after the : character.

    That is why it is good to find the echos that would be a suitable match - typically, the "chatty" echos. Any with tabular data or pre-formatted lines is not a good pick. The goal is conversation.

    Yes.. your CP866 kinda limits some things. But I wouldn't worry about that. Conversation in English mostly only requires the common letters anyway.
