Not sure what 'text only' means, but you can run it using ncurses from the command line:

syncterm -iC

I installed SyncTERM. Then I ctrl-d and typed "bbs.synchro.net" in the bar. It stayed at "connecting" and when I hit ESC it returned to the main menu and froze.

Try connecting to another BBS address maybe? bbs.synchro.net does appear to be up and answering connections however.

I connected to amigacity.xyz successfully, but it froze when I disconnected. I'm using telnet for now. It displays most of the glyphs correctly.
