here in Quebec way back when.

I guess we're getting into the realm of 'guilty pleasures' here.

I'll have to dig through my 45 case and see what moldy oldies I have in
there. Probably all in pretty poor condition as I used to carry them
around to parties where they got played on all sorts of terrible phonos.

just bought myself a "vintage" Gibson Falcon amp. Single 12" speaker
with 2 6BQ5 tubes. Reverb and tremolo. Haven't had a chance to really
"wring" it out yet. First shot at it it sounded pretty good. Needs a
little cleaning up.

That's one of the few things I've managed to hang on to over the years, I've got hundreds of them. My mother threw out all my comic books and baseball cards when I was in the army. You don't even want to know the kind of prices they would bring now.

I'm waiting for someone to jump in here and say "We walked on the moon?"

Closer to topic, remember the Accutrak turntables? They came out about 2 or three years before CDs hit the market and featured basic CD-like programming for LPs. Never had one, saw a few in stores. It was like a "Close-N-Play" with the arm built into the lid and programming keys on the front. I don't know how it sensed the track boundaries (it'd be easy with today's optics), but
you could play individual tracks, re-order the entire side, or re-play individual tracks or selection groups.

Sounded pretty swift in 1979.

It's funny, the teenagers around here really like vinyl. All the Gen X record stores cary a large collection of 33's and 45's put out by newer groups. Maybe
it's just a Northwest thing.

Nope. It's nationwide. Vinyl is making a comeback. A small comeback, but a comeback none the less. I don't know where it started, but I'm starting to see
turntables in catalogs again, and more and more releases. Gee, maybe the days of great album cover art can return too. You just can't get great cover art (like in the 60s/70s) on a 4.7" x 4.7" space. It's a lost treasure.

You can't tell me you never sat there staring at an album cover while listening
to the album. I can remember tripping while staring at King Crimson's "Court Of The Crimson King" album. <laugh>

Rich....Seems as tho within the last decade companies like Damark, and Heartland were selling jukebox type 45 setups...refurbished...If I had a bigger
condo..I'd have the jukebox near the pinball machine...and above that I'd hang the Bridgette Bardeux in hiphuggers poster with the Peter Max blacklight posters :)

Rich, I think not...Vinyl..albeit to a small scale. aslways existed thru=out..didn't pearl jam always use vinyl in the early 90's. as well as one or two other groups ?..turntables were always to be found somewhere..even if they were the stanton DJ type.... now finding a cartridge for the BIC turntable..that was a bit tough

I've got a Kenwood KD-500 that was given to me. Checking the web again, the cartridge for it is $750 on sale...

Desmond Dekker, if I recall correctly... right? Haven't heard it
in many years, but I liked that one, too.

I have a few that are as current as Blood Sweat and Tears too :)

I don't know much by BS&T, but one of the bands I was in way back
in the '70s used to do, "Spinning Wheel", along with a few things by
Chicago. It was the first of several bands I was in that had a
brass/horn section and I remember it was a pretty cool experience for
me as a young musician.

Heh... well the stuff I was listening to and buying in 1964 was a
lot different from what I was into just a couple of years later in
'66 and '67. But I've always had a fondness for close harmony and

Cool! ;-) I hung on to most of my 12" vinyl albums, but only kept
a few of my favourite singles which were still in good shape - probably
no more than about 40 of them, I'd guess.

Ouch! I've heard a few stories like that. I had a friend who lost
half of his life-long collection of comic books and hockey cards a
few years ago - in a divorce settlement of all things! They were
worth thousands!

Actually yeah, I did know that. I seem to recall that she married
a Frenchman and moved to France back in the late '60s or early '70s,
and that she had a number of hits there, too.

Yeah, that was the case with a lot of mine, too. Most of those badly
worn ones are gone now, but I kept a small box of favourites that are
still in pretty decent condition.

That's one of the main reasons why I'm still hanging on to some
of my vinyl - you can't get it on CD. That, and the fact that I've

Likewise. I've got three turntables, two of which are currently
hooked up. The third is one that I keep mainly for playing 78 r.p.m.
records and I only hook it up when I need to either play, or tape a 78.

I've been transferring some records to tape. May even try a
record to CD transfer.

I've got a few of my vinyl records transferred to tape - just so that
I don't wear out some old favourites, or rare ones. I know a few people
who have made digital copies of some of their records, and some day -
when I get the required gear - I plan to do the same.
