Kind of like what ex-Police guitarist Andy Summers is doing?

I've not heard any of his solo stuff, I guess I'll
    have to remedy that. :)

He's got nine or ten solo albums out, I think. Hang on a sec....
Okay, here's an unofficial Andy Summers discography:

Green Chimneys... Thelonious Monk - (1999)
    Strings Of Desire - (1998)
The Last Dance Of Mr. X - (1997)
    Synaesthesia - (1996)
    Invisible Threads - (1993)
    World Gone Strange - (1991)
    Charming Snakes - (1990)
    The Golden Wire - (1989)
    Mysterious Barricades - (1988)
    XYZ - (1987)
Bewitched (with Robert Fripp) - (1984)
I Advance Masked (with Robert Fripp) - (1982)

Okay, I suspect that some of the earlier ones (1987 through 1993,
which I believe were all on the Private Records label) may be deleted,
or at least harder to find now. Anyway, I've got three of his ("XYZ",
"Charming Snakes", and "The Last Dance of Mr. X") and I've heard two
more besides. They'd all fall into the category of jazz-rock fusion
and the ones from 1990 onwards at least, are all pretty good. He's
definitely not a flashy player, but he's quite tasteful for an
    ex-rocker. ;-)

Of the two albums he made with the eccentric King Crimson guitarist,
Robert Fripp, the first one ("I Advance Masked") is definitely the
    best.
Speaking of innovative guitarists (as we were in another thread), I
would think that Robert Fripp would warrant consideration for that list.

    re: Neal Schon...
...Schon does all the vocals on the one I have, the others
    are instrumental from my recollection.

I just picked up what I'm guessing is his latest CD. It's called
"Piranha Blues" mostly blues rock, quite heavy but sounds good.
A lot of signature Schon playing. the vocalist reminds me a lot
of the Bad company singer, Paul Rogers I believe. Very
    reminiscent of early '70s stuff.

Hmmm... that's one of the ones that had me intrigued, but I'm not
an especially big fan of heavy blues-rock. I pretty much got my fill
of that back in the '70s. I'll definitely have to audition that one
before I hand over the $$. Did you mention that he also had an
all-instrumental album? If so, which one is that?

Thanks for the list, I'll have to do some shopping. Maybe I'll luck out and find a few pieces on knapster.

I've listened to it quite a bit in the last week or so. There are several
pieces that stand out and make the CD worth the price of admission. But then I've been known to buy a CD for a single track...

I've heard 2 that were all (or at least primarily) instrumental if I remember correctly. I have neither of them, heard them at a friends. I'll do some looking around and see if any titles ring a bell.
