In Morse Academy v5.2r, just select ADLIB Compatible Music Synthesizer as your sound device in the options menu / tone generator. Then it will use the FM sound synthesis capabilities of your sound card (same as most digital TNC emulators, such as PSK31 and SSTV). Voilà, freeware fun. I've learned, and became proficient with, code due almost solely to that programme (only recently, I've been listening to W1AW transmissions, too -- the only extra class operator without an HF rig).

Thanks for the above info, Fane. Actually, I had never paid any attention to that aspect of the program. Mostly because I had never run the program on a computer that was running windows or a sound system.
I'm glad to hear that you like CW. It has always been a favorite mode of mine.
I was a telegraph operator and train dispatcher for a railroad as well as a radio teletype and telegraph opr in the military before I ever became a ham. So, needless to say I can't join the celebration attituded of some because it is being layed aside. Lowering requirements to accomodate those who cannot otherwise obtain licenses, diplomas or other certificates of achievment will nearly always degrade the standard which they represent and has always been an area of concern for me. I feel that standards should always be raised or maintained; never lowered. At present I too am an extra class opr without an HF
rig, but I should be back on the air shortly.

    Regards,

    Jerry
