Anyone on here going to any HAM ventions in the coming months?
I'd love to shake hands (and then sanitize, of course - LOL) if
you are!

Almost everything here locally has been cancelled but the Sevierville hamfest is back on for September 19th is back on.

That's about an hour's or so drive southwest of me.
I don't know if Shelby's back on or not.

I'm in Northwest Tennessee (well right NOT I'm in Indy, but will
be home next week :-) ) so that's not out of the question...

Shelby County or ShelbyVILLE or what?

It's a smallish hamfest but it's worth the drive to me. Hopefully it would be for you also. If you do decide to come down for it, please
let me know! I know my dad, Lyle KD7SXQ, and my good friend, Scott
KN4UWP, should be going but that's far enough off to where things could change.

The Shelby, NC 28150 hamfest. I think some people call it Shelbyville
but it may be a mistake.
Location of Fairgrounds:
1751 E. Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28152
Approx. 35 miles west of Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Yeah - probably too far to drive... Wife supports my interests, but doesn't share them all, and that's a long drive. :-)

If I was going to drive again, I'd really just wait and go to
Hamvention.
Shelby is a six hour round trip in one day while Hamvention
is a twelve hour drive round trip. I'd rather spend the time and gas going to Hamvention but if my dad KD7SXQ is going I'll ride along with him.
Driving to Hamvention really wouldn't be too bad for me to do alone but I'd probably bring along my dad and a few ham friends locally to split
the gas and drivers. If I manage to get myself a working motorhome,
that would be even better (or a vehicle and a little 16' Scamp trailer
for myself).

My wife and I have been thinking about finding a 'good for the money' Class C to do some travel with... We like the idea of one of us
crawling in the back to sleep while the other drives, being able to
just pull in to 'camp' or sleep, having the same vehicle to just 'take
the home itself' to Wal-Mart or whatever.
It's just the two of us, and a decent one will still have temporary sleeping areas for a few more (maybe above the cab, for the grandkids),
so it would still be good for that too...

My friend's parents sold their house, bought a Class A (bus) motorhome, and have lived on the road for 10 years. It works for them!

For me, I like the trailer and tow vehicle so I can drop off the
trailer and go explore. A good motorhome is nice though since if
you're not wanting to go exploring all over when you travel to
different places.
I'd find a way to get a radio in the trailer, of course. Maybe a Yaesu FT-891 and a Yaesu ATAS-102 would be a good fit.
Though, I have been thinking that if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I might get a 19' Scamp fifth-wheel trailer. That way my cat
would have somewhere to sleep while we're traveling. :D
Not a bad idea, but can't crawl in and sleep while the other is
driving. :-) Not safely or legally, anyway - LOL
We have TWO cats now - so yeah, that's not bad either...
