• google groups drops classic & translate

From August Abolins@2:221/1.58 to All on Sunday, November 15, 2020 20:49:00
    Hello!

Anyone notice that google groups dropped the option to remain
in Classic view and have on-the-fly translate?

Everything now the new interface and there is no translate
    option at all.

    Totally sad.

I never knew groups had that option. Several email lists I was on migrated there after the server they were on shut down. But I never actually went to the interface.

I used it for my sole access to the OpenXP (Crosspoint) group
    which is primarily in German.

The main developer writes to me in English, but the rest of
guys write in German between themselves.

The auto-translate seemed work very well and made the visit
    feel seemless.

I suppose you wouldn't notice the difference very much with
their webby interface on mobile. But on the desktop it was
noticeably different. The Classic made more efficient use of
the screen. The new one is blocky and clearly looks like they
    think everyone owns a smartphone/tablet.

But the main translate feature is gone. :(

Many websites such as that I use the Desktop site option, actually from my phone.

But point of fact I haven't actually gone to Google Groups page. The list owner added us to the lists when he created them.

I've never understood going to a website to for a group that I get emails from. Unless it had a separate file area for shared files.

But the main translate feature is gone. :(

The web version looks purrrtyer? :/

There are added features on the web version too: thread-
linkage, search, available on another device, etc.

But you only have one device.. so you are all set.

Email clients thread messages nicely. And as my email i use is a web based email, it is available from multiple devices.

The few times that I have visited A webpage of these email groups, reading and replying was clunky at best.

It just doesn't have appeal to me.

But you only have one device.. so you are all set.

I have multiple devices, it's just all but one are not in commission right now.
