    only max a handfull :)

i need to rebase husky here, and do it still via gentoo ebuilds, my current is the old cvs from sf.net, damm it now is read only repo, and still it now breaks rebuild of changes :/

i blame sf.net for this stupid changes of repo sources

so i need to spend time on make git ebuilds so it still keep stable, i wish if husky would change to one single tarball with would make sources lot more stable with single path and builds on every install, have multi tarballs makes it possible to have 2 tarball sources not compatible with api functions with can break updates

also lost the binkp source, hope i could make a none root build test to see if it atleast compile without errors, if it do then i know what ebuilds to create

    Hej Benny!

    only max a handfull :)

Three handfulls would make for more entertaining juggling.

my current is the old cvs from sf.net

Last I tried it was git://github.com/huskyproject/ but I haven't tried it for quite some time. I prefer my custom bash schtuffenpütten and due to all the currently used abandonware, as well as the soon to be abandonware, I predict my scripts are already out of date despite the fact they are lightyears ahead of the so-called standard fidonet fare. I have 12 year old scripts that put everyone in fidonet to shame, including husky. :-)

    also lost the binkp source

I am still using binkd for that need. Last I looked it was still being maintained.

i could hope on python based fidonet, Bo Simonsen (2:236/100) tryed, but he left me in limbo land now, sadly

    Hey Benny!

its hard with even numbers of hands and balls :)

As long as it is worth the extra effort then I see no problem(s).

lets hope i don't need to do msbse or bbbs

Why would you need to as long as you're content with husky. I wasn't so I grew my own which by default makes it the best since it is both backwards compatible and up to date, given the addition of utf-8. I see from your reply that msged isn't. That used to be the default ftn editor back in the triassic period which followed the mass extinction of all things fidonet.

good, for me its just where its maintained :=)

    Understood.

I've noticed there's a significant amount of cleanup and documentation work needed within the Husky project, but I don't mean to cast blame on anyone.

I've just started writing a somewhat detailed how-to guide for setting up an FTN node on Debian and by using the github repositories for both binkd and Husly. My goal is to share it and hopefully attract some geeks to retrocomputing, the world of BBS and FTN networks. I also aim to possibly bring back some former BBS operators who might think this technology is dead and buried, which is not the case.

If you're interested, let me know via netmail and I'd be happy to share my notes with you. Your assistance would be invaluable in identifying any omissions or errors, helping to ensure the document is as clear as possible.

    Any help is welcome.

    Chris

Why not just post the notes publicly? A GitHub gist and/or an echomail <gasp> message! :-)

As soon as it will be finalized I will share it publicly as it's my goal to share it to help anoyone who wants to run (or rerun) a node.
