• New Debian package for Fidogate

From Jame Clay@1:120/544 to All on Saturday, June 02, 2007 12:44:07
    All,
I had gotten started on updating the Debian packageing for Fidogate,
with the eventual intent of getting it back into Debian, but ended up
having to take a bit of a break because the system I was doing the package testing on decided it didn't want to work anymore... I'm putting another
system together for doing testing but in the mean time I decided I'd make changes in how the package gets built.

I had been able to get the programs updated to the current version in
CVS (v4.4.11) & I had an operational node running using those programs. Installs, however, were still broken: missing directorys, it still
installing an old version of the config files, etc. Since I need to do
changes anyway now that v4.0 of Debian (Etch) has been released, I've
decided to update the packageing using the more current standards; need
to do that in any case, in order to possibly get the package back in to
    the Debian distribution.

File announcements of in-progress files will be in the usual File Announcment echos; & if no one has problems with the idea, I can have any
such posted here as well... They will be available from my system in the
    i386 & source (and perhaps, amd64) sub-directories as follows:
    http://ftn.rocasa.us/files/ftn/apps/fidogate/debian/
    ftp://ftn.rocasa.us/ftn/apps/fidogate/debian/

    They will also be available for FREQ from my system via POTS,IBN, etc;
and I will be using the following magics for current versions of them: FGDEBX86 & FGDEBSRC (& possibly, later, FGDEBA64). (Note that right now
they only point to old versions...)

Oh sweet! :) I installed Debian 4 on my Sun Ultra 5 yesterday so this
should be a hoot :) I am just glad they fixed the Sun Type 5 keyboard
mapping problem with the Sparc version of Debian 4 before they released
    it :)

You're already, or will be, running a news server there? If so; then Fidogate is a good choice for running an FTN node or point on it... And
I'd be quite interested in how it does on that architecture...<g>

I did have an updated archive online, but I found some more problems
with it, so I took them back off... I'll put something back online when
    I have a better package...

I'm getting closer to that; I have an updated debian install of
fidogate v4.4.11 (which is a development version) running at my 1:120/545
node. If I don't find any major issues I'll make an updated Debian package
    & put it online.

I'll also be starting on the packaging of v4.4.10, which is the most
    recent stable version...

I have a test installation of v4.4.11 (the development version)
running here, installed using an updated Debian package. I haven't
put that one online as it still had problems; If the corrections I made
seem to be working, I'll be creating a new package which I'll put online.
In the mean time, it is available from CVS in the BRANCH_4_4 branch...

I also intend to start working on packaging v4.4.10, which is the most recent stable vserion. That I'll also be putting online, once I have it
    far enoough along...
