• Mgetty mailer

From Mike Miller@1:154/30.1 to All on Saturday, September 03, 2016 18:02:48
    Hello, All.
I have this phone line that hasn't been used in years. I also have a modem in the same situation.

I did a little reading today to see if I could actually set things up to allow for dialup access. It seems the preferred route is to use mgetty -> ifmail for
FTN. Is there a better solution? I guess BinkleyTerm has a Linux port, but I haven't been able to find much information about it, or a version that is less
than a decade and a half old.

I'd love to have a dialup mailer work in conjunction with my binkd mailer at some point. And potentially toss to my BBS via telnet should it be a human caller.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a setup of this type running?

    Thanks!

I have not run with a modem for years for I can olny point out things that may help you to get that going.

I think qico is an option for a mailer to answer calls. I suspect but I don't know that it works with mgetty.

My synchronet install includes sexpots. I don't know how it works or if it will
    work outside of synchronet.

MBSE BBS can take modem calls either for the BBS or mailer. I believe it does this with mgetty.

The answer may or may not be in there I can't say for sure since I have never tried it :)

qiqo runs fine with mgetty and provides a SRIF interface for file requests, but
supports EMSI only. Another option is ifcico, which supports also old handshake
protocols but not SRIF. It has a simple built-in file request processor.

BTW, if you need a SRIF file request processor with filelist generator please have a look at https://github.com/ftnapps/mfreq ;)

    Cheers,
    Markus
