• LORD badly programmed?

Here's an email I got from a sysop:

    -----------------------
You gotta understand Lord is one the worst programmed game ever. It has tons of bugs via its IGMs. As you can see it resets on its own. deletes files and does things out of my control. I never touch it. So if you got deleted then it wasn't me :<

About a year ago Lordnet crashed and as a result corrupted and locked up the Bbs. The fat table 9File Allocation table) got corrupted. One copy is good the other is bad. The \lordnet dir got corrupted. Now the FAt seems to show the c:\game\lord2\lnet\ directory as the ROOT directory.

So anything in \lnet is also in the root so if i delete from teh root c:\ it deletes from \lnet.

This is the BIG reason I've actually deleted many of the doors. I explained this in the past guess you missed the post :)

Anyways once I've gotten to a point I can backup with as minimal files and doors i can backup and run norton to fix the problem. But I suspect in the process it will want to format c:\ which is not a good plan.

So unfournately the stupid lordnet/lord game has corrupted the HD so much leading me to this...

LOL, wonder what OS this guy is running, he speaks like he is running
DOS. Anyway, as most of us know, I seriously doubt that lord is causing
any of his problems. Sounds more like a OS or hardware problem.

Saying Lord is badly programmed due to an IGM is unfair, to say the least.

Lordnet killing a FAT table? I find that hard to believe. There must
have been something else going on.

Though I will admit that lordnet itself could use some good clean up work.

He sounds like an idiot who probably has a virus of some kind.

He's evidently not a very bright sysop then. I've been running LORD for years without those strange problems. Remember, a computer's only as smart as the person programming it and Michael is one smart cookie. Yeah, Seth's version was crappy, but Michael's nearly completely rewritten LORD.

He may have had a virus on the system, improperly configured programs that were
not involved with this door setup or he simply doesn't know whether to scratch his watch or wind his ass.

It sounds more like the latter rather than the former.

That email wouldn't be from a sysop based in Jacksonville, Florida, would it? :)

Come by and play my registered LORD game. My LORD game won't delete my HPFS partition, honest. I told it not to misbehave. :P

The person who says that is pretty damn ignorant too.

I think it was an ID-10-T error. PEBKAC error, even.
