I've had that happen before, in a fairly old version. . . what ver. you GP>running?

L.O.R.D. 4.07 -- the latest one. I know that 4.08 is in beta, but I'm
not beta testing anything L.O.R.D. Related...except for the L.O.R.D.

It would be hard for anyone to update to LORD's various v4.08 betas, including DOS LORD, since it appears that Michael Preslar is no longer sending beta archives to anyone, I have been told. At least one person who wanted to update
from v4.07 to v4.08 never got any assistance from Michael, who appears to have
abandoned all support of the LORD games. And no one who does have a v4.08 LORD
beta is allowed to distribute their copy to others.

It has been over six months since LORD was re-released as 4.08 beta, for DOS LORD, LORD for Windows, LORD for OS/2, and LORD for Linux, back in the last week of September 2006. Since that time, no one seems to know why the games seem to have been abandoned, and are not being worked on at all. And no one can get any answers from the Lordlegacy web-site I have noticed, which has not been updated since June 2006 as to its News page.

It took one registered LORD user several months to get their logon ID info from
Preslar for access to the LordLegacy Forums, which also appear to have been left unattended in recent months. It is possible that Metropolis Gameport did not want LORD to be worked on any more for some reason. There are a lot of unanswered questions being asked about this situation by many people.

And there are several glitches in v4.08 beta that need to be fixed that should have been taken care of months ago. There are several parts of LORD that are not functional because of programming glitches, which are related to the problem you have encountered in LORD 4.07 about it crashing when it could not find an LORDANSI.DAT file. Which is not inside any of the LORD archives, either for DOS LORD 4.07 or DOS LORD 4.08 beta.

In the Dark Cloak Tavern in the LORD Forest, for instance, it is impossible to change your Skill Class with its bartender. When one tries to use that menu option, nothing happens. The ansi code for that skill class change appears to be intact in the LORD 4.08 beta LORDTXT.DAT file, but for some reason LORD fails to make use of it. Things like that may not be major problems, but the users of LORD deserve to have them fixed eventually.

If we are lucky, maybe we will learn answers some day as to why the LORD games have been left unattended for all these months. In the meantime, we are all forced to just live with the glitches and LORD crashes. Donald.

big deal. they dont _need_ to run the betas. running a beta is a priviledge.

archives to anyone, I have been told. At least one person who wanted to upd from v4.07 to v4.08 never got any assistance from Michael, who appears to h abandoned all support of the LORD games.

perhaps he isnt distributing the beta anymore. are you aware that a lot of these people that try to get their hands on betas are not even computer literate enough to run a bbs software [take yourself for example].

It has been over six months since LORD was re-released as 4.08 beta, for DOS LORD, LORD for Windows, LORD for OS/2, and LORD for Linux, back in the last

six months isnt such a long time, considering. you want weekly releases? WTF?

can get any answers from the Lordlegacy web-site I have noticed, which has n been updated since June 2006 as to its News page.

again, not such a long time. that was last summer.

It took one registered LORD user several months to get their logon ID info f Preslar for access to the LordLegacy Forums, which also appear to have been left unattended in recent months.

    there's a forum??

just run a slightly older [but just as enjoyable] stable release. that's what i do, and i have ZERO problems.

a LOT of the stuff that YOU claim to work on has a LOT of issues, not to
mention ugly yellow nag screens. how many months must WE wait until you fix those issues and remove those screens.

I still have no idea why that deal showed up, where the LORDANSI.DAT
file vanished. But, I've seen several other reports of similar
    instances.

Speaking of beta, it reminds me of the bulletin on the BBS
"You Want To Be A Sysop?" It's a combination of several files, showing
the TRUTH of being a Sysop, behind the modem and telnet light stage. One
of the items, covering software, notes that "you learn what the term
'beta test site' really means". I'd rather just proofread documentation, myself.

The only beta of his I'm testing is L.O.R.D. Holidays...I went back to

I also was lucky enough to register all of Ken Weitzel's L.O.R.D.
IGMs, and I also took advantage of Nannette Thackers website deal to
register her 3 L.O.R.D. IGMs, and the rest of her doors for only $10

runing beta software is often not worth it, if there are previous releases out there.

Agreed. I guess the only real reason there's a general release of a beta is because the public demanded it of the author. . .

So let THEM have it, I say.

I think the better way is when the author has a small trusted cadre of beta testers, who understand the responsibilities of a beta test cycle! :)

It's not appropriate to dump betas on unsuspecting/unqualified l-users! :P

Exactly. There is MORE TO LIFE than BBSing, L.O.R.D., etc.

    CYBER-HERETIC!!!!

Reality sucks. But, with no money to pay the bills, there can be no
BBS in the first place. Sysoping is not for the financially anemic. Besides, you do have to eat, sleep, use the bathroom, etc...and with my illnesses and disabilities, I spend too much time in the "Reading Room"
    as it is now.

I know you have exceptional circumstances -- I was addressing the idea that users/callers should ever think like the above! ;)

    Because I care,
