• Telnet login trouble

    From Gert Andersen@2:230/150 to All on Saturday, September 22, 2012 17:29:44
    Hello All!

    Is there some here there have a idea on how to make this her to not happen for telnet logon to mbsebbs.
    Escape character is '^]'

    It happens when I try to logon to mbse with telnet fido2.kofobbs.net for others
    pc's and locally on same pc where I have mbsebbs on, but when I using telnet localhost is there nothing wrong then is I going right on to mbsebbs as user.

    I have mbsebbs on 3 computers now and this pc is a new installation and it is only the use of the pc's network and hostname there not working for telnet to the hostname in the /xinet.d/mbsebbs is the telnet section have telnetd to logon with where my others 2 coputer has it as in.telnetd

    Take care,
    Gert

    you did it incorrect and installed TELNETd not mbse answering telnet ports :(

    to fix, unmerge telnet !

    Why? And in any case, that message is from your telnet client.

    I guess you're not that familiar with MBSE? Because that's _how_ MBSE answers telnet (or telnet-ssl) connects...

    Does the 'telnet' ebuild include both the client and the server?

    It why I like it to work from outside bbs login as I from my others linux pcs can telnet fido2.kofobbs.net and logon to the bbs. It works to both my binkp.kofobbs.dk point mbse system and to my backup linux mbse pc.
    But only using telnet localhost on my fido2.kofobbs.net is working self if I have gone through mbsetup for hostname on my fido2 pc.

    Do you have the telnet (or telnet-ssl) port open to the outside? I get this:

    -----<snip>-----------------------------------------------------
    $ telnet fido2.kofobbs.net
    Trying 80.63.101.235...
    telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused -----<snip>----------------------------------------------------

    Both of them like telnet from my linux and from fido2.kofobbs.dk.
    By my own network there is a WAN network should it works to telnet binkp.kofobbs.dk and when my back fido3.kofobbs.net or fido3.kofobbs.dk work too when this third system is running.
    mbsebbs on my binkp.kofobbs.dk have lot of users there have been in from outside.

    But only using telnet localhost on my fido2.kofobbs.net is
    working self if I have gone through mbsetup for hostname on my fido2

    -----<snip>----------------------------------------------------

    The was a little miss by my xinetd here has stopping running and not was started up.
    It should have been up running automatic by boot up but was got down of some reason, I have now started it up so it is running.

    mbse have a file of readme.gentoo there tell of some gentoo emerge to be installed before mbse itself been it.
    xinetd
    netkit-telnetd
    then all the archivers
    then the lrzsz (comm programs)

    But then have mbse still a error in its gentoo script file for path setting for
    root to be right.

    Is that the SSL enabled version? Debian has it but the SSL and non SSL enabled versions are in different packages...

    note the xinetd use flag

    This is from the example xinetd file available in the Debian package (note that the path is changing to '/usr/lib/mbsebbs/bin/mblogin' in the updated packaging I'm working on...): -----<cut>-----------------------------------------
    service telnets
    {
    protocol = tcp
    instances = 10
    flags = REUSE
    log_on_failure += USERID
    socket_type = stream
    user = root
    server = /usr/sbin/in.telnetd
    server_args = -L /opt/mbsebbs/bin/mblogin
    wait = no
    }
