Hello everybody.
This forseshadows, the departure of one of the last free flow radio hosts Ji Ladd in Los ANgeles who played what he wanted, not what focus groups or prog directors ordered him to.
What happened to Jim Ladd? Did he get fired or did he quit? I lived in LA from 1997 to 2006 and I always enjoyed his show. KLOS, right?
The Los Angeles Times has recently posted a story about how this one wealthy businessman has established a non commerical free form radio station in Arizona. The current culture of radio has poisoned many Americans interest i music radio. KCDX was how this wealthy businessman who also owns formula oriented radio stations kept the station as his private yet public paradise.
Kudos to him. Hopefully the station will be a huge ratings success and others will follow his lead in a commercial context. The proliferation of Clear Channel has turned the FM airwaves into a toxic wasteland. There's too much great music out there that isn't being heard because radio is being taken over by boneheaded accountants. Does anyone really care if they don't hear "Sweet Home Alabama" one more time? I think I could deal with it.
I'm lucky enough to live in a small city that has an independently owned AAA (Adult Album Alternative) station, programmed and staffed by actual DJs, but they could stand to be a bit more adventurous. Still, I try to support them as much as possible due to the fact that they are locally owned and not part of the Clear Channel empire.
