• Mystic .47 pre alpha 136x32 screen questions

From Doug Cooper@1:227/702 to All on Monday, November 09, 2020 19:28:49
    Hey all,

Hope everyone is keeping healty and sane this year!

I'm playing around with the new 136x32 terminal size option of mystic.

    1. I made a test ANSI to test out the cool new feature.
    2. Set my user settings to 136x32 in mystic (or maybe it was 132x36 but you get the drift, whichever is 16:9 ..)
    3. Set SyncTerm for connecting my BBS to the same terminal size.

The ansi I created looks awesome. However now a lot of the 80x25 (79x24) ANSI's are hit or miss as to whether they display correctly or not. Most basic ANSI's do, but any ANSI with light bar integrated, not so much.

My question (Maybe to g00r00) ... does using this feature require it's own theme as an "All or nothing" setting? Meaning, would I have to do ALL of my ANSI's in this size? Or is there a way to get it to switch on the fly based on the output of the ANSI or menu file displayed?

Thanks for any input on this.

    -Doug

It depends on how the ANSI is saved. If its saved assuming the terminal will auto wrap then it won't display correctly in larger screen sizes. If its saved to move down to the next line instead of an assumed autowrap, then it will display properly in larger terminal sizes.

I create all of mine within Pablo draw and make sure they are at 79x24,
then remove the sauce ... Occasionally I load them into the Mystic Editor and resave them that way if I'm still having issues, which normally fixes them. I'll see if the mystic editor has the ability to save as your suggesting. I don't recall Pablo draw having this feature.

The Mystic's built in ANSI editor is may be hit or miss right now in A47 since I am changing so many things. It won't let you edit the 160x60 ANSI yet for example.

The idea is once I get around to touching that up it will try to save it in a way that will display well in all terminals.

    Gotcha,

I'll just wait until that feature is baked, it'll take me longer then that to make the ANSI's I want to anyway. I could use t-draw but it's a pain to do in doxbox, with how many .ans files I have on the Underground. Pablo draw does not seem to have a clear way to insert carriage returns to my knowledge. Thats a bit confusing to me honestly. Apam was trying to explain something to try, but I'll have to reread his netmail later when it's not midnight.

    Thanks for the reply!

I think the best way to make an editor do this is to not use the last column. So for example if you are making 80 column ANSIs, only use up to column 79. If you are making 132 column ANSI, only use up to column 131.

Yeah thats what I do ... hmm .. ok. Looks wonky so maybe it's a setting in mystic and/or syncterm I have set wrong. When I say wonky, only light bar menus that have ansi wrapped around them in 79x24, the 132x? look great, and the 79x24 straight ansi files look great too. I'm working on an entire 16:9 theme anyway. I'll check some of my light bar ansi's to be sure they are indeed not line wrapping.
